salesman stories

Getting the loan and financing was probably the most time consuming thing because I had to have a co-signor due to me being a foreigner in Japan. In the end, I was approved for the loan, had insurance lined up and then decided that I really couldnt afford it.
I felt really bad about it because the sales guy was really helpful and worked hard to get me the deal.
Interestingly enough, I am now considering moving back to Japan, and if possible, will take my Evo 8 with me. (sounds strange? I'll bet I can make a profit on a left-side drive Evo in Japan due to its rarity.)

First off i have been selling mitsubishi since 2001. If you read half the posts in this thread these people dont have an evo. You young punks should realize that a dealership isnt going to hand you over the keys to one of the fastest import cars in production. For one this car is 30,000 and your looking at a large monthly payment and most the time your insurance monthly is more than the car payment.
Second your income doesnt qualify you for a 500-800 a month payment with your 10 - 12 dollar hr jobs. And even if you did qualify you would probably crash it cause 90% of evo owners spend money on mods when they should spend money on driving school and see how a awd sedan performs. You would get much more out of the car if you could drive it correctly. So Please dont waste your salesperson's time if your not buying and just want a test drive. I have heard story after story about yea im getting a 60,000 dollar check and im coming back tommorow ... Yea right ... MIss me .. To all you adult evo owners this applies to you also we work hard for our money so dont waste our time .

You know like I said my roommate and good friend is a mitsubishi dealer. It isn't that the dealers are dumb or stupid, but rather that mitsubishi doesn't really give in depth training on the Evo. Mitsubishi more or less expects the car to sell itself. For example the new outlander arrived the dealer recieved extensive training on its features. Second accept you are not going to test drive the car without pre approval of credit. It just costs too much.
Yes at my dealrship you have to qualify first then you can drive one. And i forgot dont come in asking for a discount , it just isnt going to happen this car will sell itself without taking a penny off msrp and thats a fact. And yea your right most dealerships dont have any product knowledge specialists on the evo but then again i dont think they have any trouble selling 8,000 a year
The evolution has about a 8-10 % markup . So on a rs model msrp $29,580.00 we have about roughly 2,900 in profit to play with. However we dont sell evo everyday here in las vegas so we get all the money for them. If you pay sticker meaning msrp your putting about 750- 1,000 in your salespersons pocket thank evo owners
Actually you would be suprised at the profit margin on the evo. Most of the "Deals" that are offered are a manipulation of interest rates if you can qualify for mitsubishi financing. The Lancer itself turns a much higher profit. If you want an example of commision rates teh evo at my shop only turns a 100$ commsion. The Lancer ES turns a 150-200 depending on Downpayment. Also the reason they always try to make you max your DP is because it is added to teh gross sale price of the car thus adding to their profit margin...IE commsion.
you guys both make good claims about dealerships but there is one thing that you guys forget to mention. Most people DO NOT know how to drive. As car salesmen (I use to be one I'm a finance director now) we have family that we want to go home to. I've heard numerous stories from other dealerships like the girl that lost control of an A4 on a test drive and killed her boyfriend and put the salesman in a coma or the guy that stabbed and killed a salesman at the chevy dealer about two months ago. Hell some old lady flipped an Audi convertible during a test drive. 95% of Evo owners don't even let their own friends drive their car so why would we want to entrust you to drive a dealer's car that isn't sold yet? I wouldn't and I sure as hell would not want to be in the car if something happens. As far as pricing goes hey it's supply and demand. If you think you're getting an MR for invoice and it's the only one in that region than tough luck cuz there is no reason for a discount. On the other hand if there is a surplus like 05 GSR's than you should pick one up pretty cheap and if you play cards right you can probably dig in to hold back. A dealership DOES NOT have to accept your offer if they don't want to because there is always someone looking for that exact car and that is willing to pay the price for it. Just ask all the people that but the first 03's. They are a perfect example. My 2 cents
One other thing I want to add is that 90% of car salesmen out there are not gearheads like we are. Just be upfront and when you talk to one ie: "I'm pretty familiar with the car I just wanted to check it out." or " You don't have to tell me about the car because I know everything about it let's talk some numbers." These guys work 60 hours a week so that they can make a living and Mitsubishi salesmen are making that much compared to Toyota and Honda dealers. Show at least some proffesional courtesy when you walk in to a dealer
Very Very Valid points. To back up the claim of people not knowing how to drive the car and not even trusting it to your friends; I finally let one of my buddies drive it and he is a pretty expereinced driver having dealt with imports for awhile. Even he was like "Holy ****!!!! This ****er is fast."
As far as availability. It is very true. I can get an evo even an MR at cost for the dealership, but only because of the people I know etc etc. The MR we had here was one of the first in country. There was a 4k profit markup and then an availability markup to boot. Guess what it still sold for 39K in under 5 days.

If you read my first post in here it says they should spend their money on driving school not mods. And if your a finance director
if your talking about getting into hold back or trunk money on a evolution your crazy. We are not selling nissan sentra's here , and like i said they would sell even if we didnt take 1 red cent off MSRP
EVER HEARD OF A REABTE ON A EVO NEVER!

you have a different market and here in l.a. we got 15 mitsu dealer's within an hour drive and MMC gave us marketing support of $1K loyalty and another 1K on evo's. You region is different than our and I don't work for mitsu. I pickep up my 05 SSL GSR for 28k + T&L. Not every region or dealer has to honor the programs like yours. You have no competition so you can justify holding the value of the car but not here in so cal. oh and if you want I can fax you the Evo programs too. How long have you been selling cars?

Since 2001 for nissan and mitsubishi, and no you can keep your incentive sheets i am aware that different regions get special promotion and financing cause some places dont have the market. And if your from la i sold cars for universal city nisssan and i am aware of the abundance of car dealerships , that still doesnt mean your getting hold back on a evo no way! Why would the dealership give you the car for what they paid for it , then they wouldnt be millionaries right?
Bingo we have a winner!

I work for a Mitsu dealer in Central Texas and you are right! There is NO training on this vehicle. If you want to know about it you have to come to the forums and spend time in the service department with your technicians (or read all about it). The fact that they change everything with each new model does not help. Cars are getting as bad as computers. By one and in six months the new bigger and badder model hits the showroom floor.
I have to agree that no salesperson wants to waste their time, but you can never judge a customer by appearance, age, etc.
Thanks,
