Keep in mind that some banks will not let you borrow money to buy a salvaged car. The car is usually worth several thousand less.

what is ur mom insurance coverage? full or liability?
thanks
You can purchase full coverage on salvaged cars in AAA
My mom has one way on her 2000 accord because its not worth purchasing full coverage on a salvaged car worth 10k or less.
I do not know about other companies though

In CA. Some insurance companies will only insure with lia. You will have to have the CHP inspect the vehicle to make sure it is driveable and secure. It is approx. $200.00. Every state is specific.

Also if you do get an insurance company that will cover with full coverage, and there is a total loss. Whatever amount they come up with will be deducted by 50%. This is for CA Progressive Insurance.

From what I understand you can not get full coverage on a salvage title. You can only get liability. And what some others have said about getting a loan on a salvage titled car, a bank will NOT borrow money for them. It is too much liability for the bank and insurur.

Also, some DMV states are not compatible with other states. For example, a while ago what was happening is that people would buy a vehicle that was totaled from another state and then register it in the state they were in with a clean title. The DMV would assume okay since they could not check with the state it was totaled in. So when you insure it and get in an accident there they would get the full amount and not the 50% or 60% or whatever % deducted.

This is illegal and now the DMV's have caught on to it!!

does the DMV really have time to check every car if it's salvaged or not?
i guess it's not possible to register the car clean if it's from the same state.

Most insurance companies do not use KBB. KBB is a national average. The amount of a vehicle in Los Angeles CA is going to be selling different than in Utah or AZ. Most insurance companies will find the vehicle in your area with approx. mileage, color, etc. and find out what they are selling for. They normally will find 3 or 4 and find out the average.

The DMV is linked to alot of states now. Most insurance companies will run your record and it will come up with whatever they find. Got a ticket in AZ and when they ran my record, I had to pay for it on my insurance. Insurance companies now have a program that is linked with alot of DMV states to avoid fraudulant claims with salvaged vehicles.

if you buy a salvage title car, would you make it into rebuilt title or just leave it with salvage?

this is gonna be my last question, how much less usually the price is from a clean title car if you wanna buy / sell a salvage title car?

I have not heard the phrase rebuilt title. A salvage vehicle will always be a salvage vehicle. Again I am in CA and do not remember all of the other states. In CA you would need to go to Chp and have them inspect it (about 200.00). Once that is done, you would be able to drive on the road. If it does not pass, you would need to fix.

I forgot the #'s. If you are going to purchase, I would pay 50% of what the vehicle is worth and you can argue that if it gets into an accident and is totaled again then you will only get 50% of the value. Sucks because if you have a 1991 honda accord with cosmetic damage to the rear bumper, quarter, and trunk, that alone depending on the parts you put on will come to 70-80% within the value of the vehicle(not including paint or frame damage if any plus little stuff like emblems, pin strip, impact bar, etc). Which means they would prob. total. Even though it is driveable and is okay once the vehicle is fixed. PM me if any other ?'s.
