Evo IX envy..........some thoughts from an Evo VIII owner.
I currently have an WW VIII MR and I get a chub every time I drive it. For me there is no envy. I have just as much fun driving my VIII as my friends do driving their IX's. In all honesty I would take a VI TME over a IX MR any day of the week.
I am glad I waited for the IX. I thought about the VIII, but I decided to wait because I wanted to test drive the IX and the VIII. Both are very and I do mean very good vehicles. You can't go wrong with either vehicle. It is just a matter of what vehicle does the individual prefer. The Evo is just what you want when you want to kick @$$. As far as MIVEC is concerned, it is the future of the Evo. This isn't the first time Mitsu has used this system, it has been around for awhile. IMO I believe that this will help the Evo in the long run.
this was intended for all the civics out there, but if ya'll wanna join

no envy here, i love my 05 VIII to death. it does the trick, plus nowadays i see evo 9s everywhere. as opposed to an 8 thats once and awhile and i dont want a car that i see on the road all the time. performance wise im not bothered at all when the car is paid off i plan on going bigger turbo so the power the 9 makes doesnt phase me because i'll be making more afterwords. anyways if you have an evo any evo enjoy it.

No envy here, cheaper car payments and I am modding the car to a beast. Plus the evo 9 front bumper is ugly(IMO) and my moms mini van looks better then the Evo 10
For the price I paid for my 2005 I cannot complain. I get a little envious because it seems like all the Evo guys I hang out with have spankin new IXs.
I just remind myself how much smaller my loan balance must be. And as for that toolshed up there talking about ricer tailights, they can be changed. My VIII has both IX heads and tails. I also added HIDs. Now I have even less to be envious about.

Wow.
This thread resurrected itself.
Since I started this post I've moved on with my 05 Evo.
No more envy now, since I saved a good $3,000 - $4,000 in interest for buying my Evo with 0% financing.
Now I envy Evo's with a bigger turbos.

in the end, I wanted an SSL, and I knew i wasn't going to get one in IX form lower than sticker when I NEEDED to buy the car in August 2005. I had sold my old car and was living in Houston at the time, a city that you NEED a car in to get ANYWHERE (unlike the Northeast, where I drive my Evo 20 miles a week, if that!)
So in the end, I got my SSL $35k out the door (about $3k under what I would've paid for the IX), and thus far, I couldn't be happier!
Sure, i'd like the ability to mod and see 350awhp, but I know the minute I cam and TBE my car, I'll be seeing about 30awhp less. . .is that worth $3k in price? NO!

There will always be a little envy of the newer, faster model. When the X comes out and it's that much faster (which it probably will be) than the current IX people will be envious.
When I take my car to a HPDE event and they really see what the car can do it definitely earns respect as a true performance car. At the last Porsche HPDE event I went to a member remarked how he would like to have a ride in the Evo since it looked like so much fun.
Even if I was driving an Evo I to the track, people would still give it the respect it deserves. The Evo's reputation precedes it where ever it goes, and it always will.
