Evo IX envy..........some thoughts from an Evo VIII owner.
It seems like I see a couple of new threads per week of the following:
1. Evo VIII owners wanting to upgrade to the IX.
2. New Evo IX dyno numbers stock/lightly modified that are impressive.
Here's what I think is the crux of the IX envy.
My car is stock now and over the next few months to a year I plan on getting the typical bolt on parts: full TBE, flash, cams, and boost controller.
Obviously from that point on the next step would be a larger turbo, but I think most Evo owners have their cars at the max bolt on level (e.g. Buschur Stage 4) from what I see it sigs for a number of reasons (driveability, reliability, and cost) and herein is what I think makes me and maybe other Evo VIII owners envious of the IX.
It looks like an equivalently modified IX compared to a VIII makes a good amount of horsepower more.
Maybe when the larger turbo upgrades to the IX are available things will even out, but how many do have the time and cash for a turbo upgrade?
Personally, I'm the type of person that has the mentality of "I wish I waited for that" or "maybe I can wait a little longer", so it does irk me that I bought my VIII towards the end of the cycle of the VIII (August) knowing about the the IX coming soon.
Was there envy from 03-04 Evo owners when the 05s with the ACD and 10.5 hotside came out?
Knowing me I would have been upset, but I'm speaking fro myself.
Maybe my mentality = impatience?
But at least I did get 0% and over the course of 4-5 years at about 3.9% - 4.9% APR, I saved about $2,000 - $2,500 in interest payments.
Just my 2 cents.

I have an 03 evo, no envy at all...I would love to have acd or everything the evo 9 has that my car don't have. However for what I pay a month, Im happy with my car. Low payments= more money for mods and for my self....... Be happy with your car man, 0% financing is nice.....Evo ix is the best right now, but the evo will always evolve and improve in time.....
oh an btw..wait until the 10 comes out, depending on how it ends up there will be hardcore envy and the 8 and 9 will no longer be "as cool" but i didnt buy my car to get props I just wanted an Evolution and im happy!!!

For the cost of trading an 8 for a 9, you can likely upgrade an 8 to 9 performance (or better), and if you do it yourself, the car will be uniquely suited to your personal driving style and preferences. Half the joy of owning the car (to me), is to make it my own through very targeted mods. The other half is of course to drive the **** out of it

I am happy.
There is a small part of me that thinks about the possibilities of the IX.
My post was really just some of the points that I think some Evo VIII owners may have regarding the IX.
BTW, I can't believe I typed the word "fro" in my post.

An EVO is an Evo is an EVO.
No matter what flavor of Evolution you have it'll still be cool and the envy of 90% of those who acctually care about cars like these.
The EVO9, while nice is going to be the last iteration of the venerable 4g63 EVO. However, I really dislike variable valve timing systems so I will never love the 9 the way I love my 05 EVO8.
IMO when they move to the new powerplant it'll be similar to when Porsche went for air to watercooled flat sixes. Mitsu should tread lightly! It took porsche 8 years to right that wrong for most porschefilles.
Lets face it. A FIVE YEAR OLD evo6 would be more envied in the USA then any 9 or 8.
It's all about rarity.
ALL EVO's are RARE. ****, a CORVETTE is fairly rare and they make 7 times more Corvettes a year then EVO's for the US.

I bought my replacement evo VIII a week before they announced 0% financing on 05s. I think that is the most envy I had. At the time I considered waiting for the IX but at that point there were no concrete details on anything other than the look (I hated the front round scoop things) so I bought another VIII.
Now that I've had a good look in person at a few nines I have a little envy again. Especially for the midrange torque. But oh well there is no financially responsible way to switch out so soon and the car with exhaust and dynoflash is faster than 90% of cars out there anyway.

You can't worry about it. Just enjoy your car and your 0%.
