Evo III Importing Scam?

yea I really want a 5. It has my favorite body style. I imagine it would be in the 20's or so. I am not a big fan of the X, if I had my choice, i could deal with a 5 and a 9, or 5 and 8. I may get one of those 3's, and then save for a 9 when they go used. I really want an RS. I found one for sale for a STEAL of a deal near me, but the guy decided to keep it.
I'm very curious to your comment about USAA. I have had USAA (military brat) every since I started driving (now 31), and my parents(ret. air force) have used USAA since it was first available to officers. I will call them on Monday to enquire about insuring a specially imported vehicle. Every company is different, but I can share my experience after I call. They are a great company, insure members world-wide, but aren't exactly a one on one, exceptions allowed insurer.
I recently contacted USAA regarding the Ariel Atom, as my father and I were considering going in 50/50 on one. Some states are starting to allow registration of Atoms, others have not. I gave them the appropriate information, and after reviewing the car, they declined to offer a policy. They recommended a specialist/collector option, who also declined to cover the vehicle when given the description.

The ariel atom is also a very different car then a mid 90's 4 door sedan that has several very equivalent models over here in the US. The gentleman is in the military and this is who his Skyline is insured through.
He called me today, and was very nice. I am going to take a look at the cars over my Christmas break and hopefully if things go well I can pick one up shortly there after.

I am the proud owner of an EVO 1 here in Florida. Car is a blast to drive. I know of three Legit ways of getting titles for imports. Those who say it cant be done just aren't doing their research. Do you really think evolutionimports.net would be able to stay in business all these years. Their business has tripled its inventory the last couple years if you haven't noticed.

I understand what type of vehicle we are talking about. My point was towards normal insurance company reactions to out of the ordinary vehicle requests.
Which nissans are similar to R32-34s? Similar does not mean the same. Rigging a policy in a shady manner is a good way to see how insurance fraud feels. R32-34s hiding under a salvage title 300zx or maxima is not acceptable to me, nor is an evo under a salvage mirage or galant. Otherwise, there would be a lot more rhd and row cars here already. My point was towards legitimate insurance in the u.s. on vehicles that fall outside of most company databases.
Insurance on a vehicle in another country has nothing to do with insurance on a vehicle in the united states. I would hope that after taking the time and expense of getting a gray market vehicle imported and registered, people would want more than just a liability policy, or an "engineered" policy using another model as a substitute, or a collector policy that prohibits x amount of mileage/storage restrictions, or one that doesn't protect you in the case of an accident, or worse yet, a lawsuit.
I stated that I am calling the same insurance company (usaa) to find out how I can insure an imported row/gray market vehicle through them. We'll see what they say on monday. I hope to report back that it's easy, but I want to see for myself. Usaa does not insure kit cars, replicas, collector cars, and last time I checked, salvage titles are not allowed either. So, I want to see what options they have available.
I don't like the fact we can't easily get a car that everyone has, but I'm not willing to break the law or risk my safety to drive a cool car. I'll update you guys on Monday.
He sent me a copy of the title for his Skyline, and it had it listed as an Unspecified Nissan, BNR32, etc. So I am sure if that is what the title listed, then thats how it is insured. I think that insuring it as a specialty vehicle would be no different then taking say a custom mustang that has been modified and rebuilt and insuring it for more than the cost of the base car.
talking about evo 3, i saw one in the philippines when i went home. a stealth super bling bling black w/ black powdered rims aaooooohhhh it's so sexy and he told me that he had 350whp on it but he changed the tranny, flywheels etc when it concerns the handling. he also told me that he have anti-lag sys. on it(MISFIRING SYS./bang bang sys.) well pretty much he told me that he tried to copy exactly the initial d anime Emperor team leader evo 3. sucks coz i never had a chance to ride it though coz him and his wifey were arguing at the moment that i was checkin out his car
Mark, for what it seems, this is the real deal. Perry called me yesterday, and invited me to go look at both the Evos and Skylines he is bringing over. I told him I would be more than happy to over christmas break, as the cars will be here around the first of the year. I am going to call my insurance and make sure they will cover the car, and if not, look into a specialty insurance for it. From there it is just a matter of making sur ethe DMV will title it, which they should because the car will already have been titled in Fl. As fas as inpsections, the county my cars are registered in is not an emissions county, so inpections should not be a problem.

What part of NC are you from ... I lived in Greensboro and High Point for a couple of years....
I live in Florida
I live in Florida and I have seen Florida car registration with Japanese Vin # naming a generic Japanese brand, my friend has a RHD Toyota Soarea from Japan and register in Florida as a 94 Toyota.
I guess it is possible but dunno the detail on how they did it in the states.
He even got insurance for it.
