Cheers,
I read this a while back and I though "I'm glad i don't have it"... shortly thereafter I gave someone a ride (my wife I think) and then I had this annoying loud rattle from somewhere in the passenger side.....

Anyway, I also remember reading that the seat belt buckle in the passenger side was the issue..... I looked and sure enough, when they take off the seatbelt, it sort of gets twisted and bangs against the door pillar an/or the seat, duh.... Just reach over and untwist it, presto! the rattle is gone

Anyway, I'll happen every time somebody unbuckles the seat belt in the passenger side............

I have it. It's the wiper blade on the windsheild. It should only do it when you are going above about 45. To check to see if that's it just wait till you here it then flick your wipers on. If the noise stops that's your problem. I haven't found a fix but I guess if it's really annoying you could just rip the dang thing of and pray it doesn't rain.

See, mine's different. I tried sticking my finger in the passenger side vent pointing at the window (up on the dash) and the noise went away. It's gotta be something in my dash.

I have a faint buzzy rattle that seems to come and go, but it is usually making some faint noise. It sounds like it is coming from my center vent/clock area, or possibly the passenger side dash. Luckily the stereo easily drowns it out and the noise isn't ultra noticeable to begin with.

Per others comments, I guess it could be the wiper, but to date I haven't been able to check this possible source. It never fails every vehicle I get, regardless of manufacture, always ends-up with some annoying sound.

I am also going to check the glove box tomorrow and maybe buy one of those noise inspection probe stethoscopes!

I had this same rattle in my Bentley Arnage Red Badge... I couldn't figure it out... so one day I was just fed up with it, and I grabbed a pair of the jaws of life and ripped my dash open above the glove box. There to my surprise, was a little green fellow with a huge smile and a big rattle. When he saw me, he rattled his rattle at me and then non-chalantly jumped off into the passenger seat, looked up and smiled at me again, and jumped out the window and took off.

Thanks Skbydoo,
Turns out it was the wiper on my car. Not sure I would have found it myself.
Cheers,

Guy's, check the area where the dash meets the windshield. This seems to be where mine is coming from. It should be a pretty easy fix if that's the case. I will attempt to fix mine this weekend and post the results.

(Yes, I finally got mine )

So has anyone found the root cause of this rattling problem yet?

All the cars I've owned had had some rattle or other at some time. There are probably lots of different rattles in the EVO. My WRX had an intermittent buzzing that came from a trim part at the bottom of the windshield. You could stop it by pressing on the plastic part, it was vey annoying but fortunately it was intermittent. I had a very loud rattle in my EVO that appeared to come from the passenger's side. It was as others said, the seat belt buckle of the passenger's side front seat. When people take it off, it does not go back straight but wedges slightly twisted between the door post and the side of the seat. It will make a big racket there and will stop as soon as you untwist it. Every body with a loud rattle that comes apparently from the dashboard, gove box or passenger side should look at this seat belt buckle first.

Its the hood. Its out of alinement which causes the dash rattle. Where the pivot joints are unbolt them and move them closer to the sides. (0.5mm to 1.5mm). Well in my eclipse it got ride of my dash rattle. Oh you can also try to insert foam rubber between the windshield and dash meets. Anyways good luck. Gonna trade in the Eclipse GST for an Evo soon unless someone wants it from me. Laters...

I have it too, I think it may be the wiper.
