I'm glad I'm not the only one with this rattle problem. Mine kinda sounds like something doesn't fit right. It's from the passenger side corner of the dash, by the windshield. Also, my brakes are making a weird squeal when I stop sometimes (not like a brake wear indicator sound. this is much louder). I'm thinking it's brake dust though from them big *** Brembo brakes. 1650 miles in 8 days.
The 2G DSMs ('95 - '99 Eclipses/Talons) had this notorious dash rattle. You'd swear it was a loose windshield or something on the passenger side, in the corner right where the windshield meets the dash. The DSMs also had a speaker right around there too. Many people, myself included, spent a good bit of time screwing around with the dash area trying to find that cursed rattle.
Until one day when I was doing something under the hood and noticed the passenger side hinge was a little squeaky and loose.... I tighted the bolts down a bit and stuffed a piece of foam into the hinge so that the metal pieces didn't knock against each other. The persistant, annoying dash rattle I had lived with for months was a thing of the past. It was so refreshing to drive the car after that. It's amazing how a little thing like a dash rattle can take so much joy out of driving a car.
If your EVO has a similar rattle (mine does not, BTW), I'd check the hood hinge. Even if it looks fine, try wedging a folded peice of paper or foam into the hinge just to "see" if that helps.

The EVO I test drove had this same "rattle" in the same spot as everyone else is reporting. I thought it was an isolated thing in that particular car.
Too bad it seems to be somewhat common. This car has so many structural upgrades, I'm rather suprised that there would be this type of "vibrational" rattle. I don't own one yet so I don't know, but does the rattle occur at certain RPM in a certain gear?
Also, given the number of people who have a rattle, I'm surprised that you folks haven't taken it to the dealer to have them fix it. Given that it seems somewhat common, it would be VERY helpful to let Mits know so that they can find the fix and fix everyone's EVO that has this rattle. If you don't tell them, they won't know that there is anything wrong.

The BIGGEST reason for me, is the fact that they have threatened to remove the dash....
For me, I am NOT interested in having anybody remove my whole fricken dash for a tempremental rattle..
Just my two cents, but geez, is the rattle annoying or ??
i think many of us have all sorts of rattle....no biggie...heck ive only had my car like 3 days now and 300 something miles and mine has a slight rattle here and there...especially when i take off...(leaving a stop light,*i suck*)..sounds like a metally rattle where the radio is.
I have a "ticking" or "rattling" sound, too...it seems to be temperature sensitive...it's worse when it's cold, but goes away when it's warm...could be contraction of plastic parts or something...I'll check the hood hinges, though...
