Having owned both, my 2 cents are simply that the Evo is the "better" of the two on the basis that its more performance oriented. The STi is better in that its possibly easier to live with since its not as "harsh" as the Evo.
Basically if you want the performance go Evo, if you want 90% of that but 10% more comfort go STi. Did I confuse everyone?

best thing to do is go to a dealership in an evo, and request a test drive in an sti.. get some personal feedback, beats reading opinions ;] plus it is alot more fun!

dude Crystal Gray Metallic is the color they make the least of...World Rally Blue is by far the most popular because they make a majority of STis that color

wait a minute! nope. i still like the evo's interior more. only thing i like on the sti more is the gauges but.. ehh its a gauge, who cares? these are performance vehicles. not beauty contests.
how about take another picture of the dashes then compare them... ehh the evo just has seats, a couple of brides will out do them.. its just seats who cares? these are performance sedans... not ferrari's.

you see how pointless a post liek that is?

I can't believe people are still trying to defend the evos interior, its not bad but its not better than the STI's, just look at the center console and everything else in teh sti then look at the evo's. The evo's interior reminds me of my 02 oz rally... cause why?? cause it is the oz rally interior, minus the wheel and seats.

Anyways the poster can ignore this post, cause even though i made it i think it was pointless and stupid.

If your going to save money getting the STI id say you get the sti. I love both cars but its so close that if your going to save money getting the other id say you do that.

I drove both before I bought my first EVO. Loved them both. Chose the EVO for the greater feeling of being "one-with-the-road" that it inspired right off the showroom floor.

I have had the opportunity to drive a friends STi on occasion, and really appreciate the vehicle. I also drove his '04 WRX, (stock), at a track-event last weekend, (the motor for my current EVO is in parts in my garage), and was quite impressed.

Bottom line. Either way, you can't go wrong. They are so close to the same in stock form that it is more a decision based on comfort vs. "sportiness", IMO.

Just my .02

I went with the 05 evo because of the look of the 06 sti, particullarly the second wing on top of the roof.

you're right, a gauge cluster has much more to do with performance than seats gripping you.

silly me

What im trying to say is, god the seats are functional enough for a sporty sedan, its not a freaking ferrari where your expecting your seats to be super grippy. Read the post better cause i was mocking you, i wasnt making the post to say the gauges are more functional then the seats,*hence the layout* kinda looks liek yours doesnt it?? *EHH* anyways im not going to argue cause it doesnt help the creator of the thread much. i wouldnt even be arguing about interior if you didnt make that post.

Evo's interior= just functional
Sti's interior= more refined

Maybe your a RAySssEerr so the seats does your interior in cause its so PhunC Tion AL, but to your average joe the STI's center console and dash is probably more appealing. Everyone on this forum thinks evyerone races on tracks, this guy already stated stock for stock and he wont be doing much but a turboback, so the sti seats are probably enough, but i had an OZ rally which costed like 15 grand, having that dash in my 30k evo hurts.

First of all....your looking at the guages most of the time and not looking at the road? ? ...your gonna make a $33K decision on the stupid guages?? Heres some FACTs about the guages.....

Nippon Seiki (Defi parent) does the STi guages...thats why they are so neato and cute/red and do the 'Defi' opening 'swing' needle dance...(Glad they didnt do 'em in PINK!)

Evo guages get nice and brite after you remove the cluster and remove the bulb condoms! (Free mod if you dont already now that)

Add the Defi HUD like me and NEVER EVER look down again except for the fuel light/guage

Evo steering IS SHARPER at 1.25 lock to lock and you will have to purchase an aftermarket rack & pinion for the Subie to match this!

Lets run both cars in 5th gear on the freeway from a 70 roll in 5th and see who makes it to 120 1st......Evo baby.

Whos got the brightest best HID's? We all know the *(now MR only) outshines the Sti's in color

Evo = No pink emblems to peel off

Evo = Better seats and WAY MORE interior room

Evo = top resale value......
http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/pop...1.exclude.html

Evo = Street creedo and cost to mod

Sti = lenthened wheelbase(bandaid) for '05-'06 to match the Evo

Sti = USDM 2.5L only motor gave it the torque to 'seem' faster than the evo

sti feels stronger stock for stock and is very easy to drive. Steering is less responsive

Own both. I'd say you should get the Sti if:
a)you want a car that's more relaxing to drive
b)don't mind it being slightly slower than the evo (reason follows)
c)don't plan on modding to much

The Sti is a nice car and from what I have here I think it's slightly better built than the evo.
Anyway, if you want bolt on mods then you're going to have to settle with exhausts and probably intake. For any serious power you'll need to get things done professionally and we're talking serious money. However, once you get to silly figures like 450-500+ then it's probably the same money as the evo.

Even with a JDM STI 2.0L in your S? That 203 is a beast, so many more ECU features than the standard STI from what I've read. That is very interesting to hear though. I was under the insperation that the JDM STI has the same if not more power and mod potential as the Evo block. Different strokes for different folks...

Did someone just say go from a roll from 70 to 120 in fifth gear? I thought the fifth gear at 70 mph in the evo was terrible. Maybe the evo had an anchor tied to the back of it when I was driving it. Oh well.
