This tread has turn to $hit. I understand you all love your evo's as we love our STi's and both cars have there great points. But you have homeless people with no car^^^talking $hit about the STi...... I don't get it if you goto subaru forums you don't see this downgrading other people. I guess I just don't get it.

some people are just very narrow-minded. don't mind them; just ignore them and pay attention to the people that are worth your time

i dont think anybody mentioned this yet but what about reliability?
i have a wrx its amazing never had 1 problem. i know its not the same car but my cousin had a dsm that crapped out at 50k miles. So to me its kinda like have a fast car with a company going down/bad warrenty or a slower heavier one that the warrenty still is just ok. just thought id say it

Well, today I went and test drove an 05 sti and a new 06 Evo IX, not the MR. I was very impressed with both cars. Here are my thoughts.

Interior
Hands down the Sti wins in this category. The evo is kinda plane when it comes to the dash set up. The Sti has nicer gauges, cd player, and nicer quality materials. The sti also has a nicer shift knob and hand brake. They look very good with the pink stitching. As far as the steering wheel goes. Both are very nice but prefer the Evo's. I like the seat design in both cars but thought the Evo's were more confortable and had more support.

Exterior
Both look very good from the outside. Evo IX wins for the best front end and wing. The Sti has better wheels then the bas IX and I love the way the hood scoop looks on the sti. As far as tail lights go I like them both about the same. If this were the VIII I would like the sti's tail lights better.

Overall drving impressions
Evo IX felt alot like my VIII except with a little more top end pull with the addition of mivec. Amazing handeling and love the precise steering. The surge at 3,500 rpm's is awsome in the evo but down below that it really has no power. I loved the smooth shifter in this car.

05 Sti suprised me quite a bit. This car right from acceleration pulled really hard but started to taper a little towards red line. Amazing response when shifting although the short shifter on this Sti felt kinda notchy and not very smooth. The handeling was very good on the sti as well very close to the Evo's handeling. The Sti is way easier to launch then the evo.

Overall both great cars and it will come down to price and insurance now. I loved both cars and would be happy with either. I do wish the sti came in graphite grey. I love this color.

"Both are great cars. I bought the STi because of the looks, interior and better low end grunt . And they don't have as many problems"

Yeah right, that's why the 06 STI's have plastic brackets on there motor mounts!!! I know someone that has broken there mounts at 1800 miles and a stock car. Dealership says they will not replace if happens again. He has to drive it like a Grandma.

I was thinking of getting the 06 STI. I sold my 03 EVO. But now, there is no way I will get one considering the mount brackets will brake with a stock car and having to argue with the dealership about not getting on it. Even though I can get an 06 STI for $200.00 over invoice. I am going to stick with the 09 GSR or 09 MR. IMO.

Stock for stock the 04 STI sweeps the 03-04 Evo away. Then add minor mods and it turns the other way around.

You obviously must never visit nastycocks (nasioc) or IWSTI . This same thing happens in reverse constantly .

People are going to defend to car they bought, period. There isn't an "answer" that matters. Drive both, pick one, live with your choice...

Dude quite living your life in Denial. Your block explodes with 400whp and I know several that are trying to get there STIs in the tens and 1 yr later Nada. Nothing but blown motors after 50 gs invested.etc. 12.2 with TBE and Cobb tuning. The stock turbo runs out of breath and out here the only STI I seen hit 12s, 12.7 had an upgraded turbo kit. MBGSti hit 11.7 or 11.8 at 116 mph on a green turbo with a 1.6 60 ft,however, his car did not last too long after that run. I am done dude u can live your life in denial.

You said that the 9 is not that different from your 05 VIII, so why bother trade right now. You will take a big hit on selling/trading your 05, unless you plan on keeping both. I say wait until the end of 2007 and trade for an 07 IX. It is rumored that the X is going to have an all aluminum open deck engine that is not going to be as boost friendly as the 4g63. The 9 will be the last EVO with the 4g63. It will be a keeper
