I owned 2 Evo's and loved them, Would I like an Sti?????
Yay another Evo vs. STi thread in which Evo owners throw out random, pointless and unsupported tid bits of info. Just go test drive the cars dude. You've had 2 different Evos in the last 2 years. You can afford to take a chance.

LoL some of u guys look at the evo's like if its a ferrari. the *BEST car on the STREET* Jesus if the sti was so bad i dont think people would compare them two that much. Look at how many damn comparisons there are. Dont get started with the 9's interior being better... thats just stupid, its teh same **** as the 8 but fake carbon fiber sticker overlay to the dash and different upholstery on the seats, and a black steering wheel. The sti is up there with the evo and theres not much to say about that. Ive driven both.. and this guy is ASKING stock for stock, they are about the same siht, about the whole tracking ordeal, not everyone races their damn cars, the evo might be a better track car but it doesnt mean teh sti sucks. The sti is a competitor and you cant just ignore that.
I'm extremely happy with the Evo. It's a ****ing legend. Everytime I drive past an STi I can't help but think "Hah, you got the watered down one". The Evo is sharper in everything. Looks, handling, engine response. It's a razor.
To each his own but I don't pick my car based on blue seats and fancy guages, I can add those aftermarket.

im in a similar situation, right now i own a 02 wrx and im looking to get an STi, Evo, or SC cobra. idk yet.
From my reading on subaru fourms the STi is not max from the factory, with just EM from Cobb (Stage 1) you got Hp gains of 16 and 33 lbs more of tq. from stock (should be in high 12s)
if you go up/down pipe + the Cobb em (stage 2) =40hp and 68 tq. from stock (should be in mid to low 12s)
But hands down the evo makes love to mods.
also i am not a fan of the blue carpeting in the STi.
the best advice i can give you is drive both the same day, so the experiences are fresh and you can make a well informed comparison.

i ran into the same problem. i test dri=ove both the same day and i choose the sti. love every minute i drive the car. the evo was nice, i just figured a car this close in comparrison it lead down to the price. i paid 30 for my 05 sti with 2 miles on it
Both cars are SWEET!. My cousin and uncle has a STi and whenever I get a chance to drive it, I do. The low end is much nicer than the Evo. The power comes on right away swinging your head back with every shift. Tons of torque, this is really why the Sti feels faster than the evo. But the fall back as people mentioned is the top end, it falls flat. Handling isn't as good as Evo.
The only thing that made me choose the Evo over the STi was because of pricing. I couldn't find any used Sti's for the same price as my evo.

If you posted this same question on NASIOC, guess which majority opinion you'd get there? I own both and love them both. Stock for stock, I chose the STi. With a few simple mods, I'm happy to run with any EVO at the track. It's not the lopsided *** whooping many would have you believe. As many have said, just go test drive them and make up your own mind. Both will put a big smile on your face every time you drive them. How many cars can say that?
yikes... hrmmm one observation I got, seems like so many of you guys are so obsessed with 1/4mi performance and huge power, while respectable or whatever, dont you think the evo/sti are better suited to be cars made to turn, just something that gets me when I look at these dicussions. I dont mod my STi for power (stock engine, dont plan to do anything to it) I did prep it for AS in SCCA autox competition, that is where the fun is at!
And please dont kid yourselves "I got the ravor sharp one, blah blah" they are both quite focused soooo similar they are both going to be FUN at an autox/trackday and the similaritys are so close its 99.99% driver! Granted I highly respect that mitsubishi gave the USDM market such nicely focused evo's (the RS especially) where as Subaru of America gave us 1 STi that is quite unique and GREAT (duh I own it) but I do wish we got better seats that arnt as wide as the average american , and I wish didnt get slightly softer springs, but oh well the car still grips like a dream, just sucks that the evo's get slightly better rubber stock and bigger sway bars... we could go on and on, get a sway bar(s) blah blah it will handle just as good, it goes in a circle, point is both are great I just find it rediculous when people say pointless or totally unsupported bits of info...
oh well its all good we all love our cars ! I must drive an evo!!!!!

so harsh, i personally love both cars, i bought the evo because i received a better deal on it, looking back i would still buy the evo over the sti. But the sti is an amazing machine. I wish there was more love between the communities for the cars are brothers from another mother IMO.
