Hey guys,

i live in the bay area of california and it doesnt get too cold here. maybe it was in the high 40's to low 50's today and my clutch was shuddering a lot more than it was yesterday. its the stock clutch and i have about 23.5k miles on it. any ideas what the problem is?

Hi,

I have 14k on my stock clutch without any issue. Have you tried testing if your clutch is slipping? To do so, floor the accelerator when you are doing 60-70mph on the freeway.

FYI, we change many Evo clutches here and currently have the ACT street disc in stock if you need.

Thanks,
Tom

Mine is doing it too i think, it feels like the front wheels are hopping. I am pretty sure it is the cold though.

the cold does make it worse. Your clutch is probably fine from a "holding the power" standpoint, but their could be some high (or low) spots on the clutch facing/pressure plate/flywheel or a combo of the three that is causing the shudder. As it heats up, the coefficient of friction changes, and things calm down right?

An engine dampener, or the Forge motor mount will help the situation. There are several threads on these two subjects. Mine has been fairly bad, especially in reverse on cold starts, and an engine dampener took out 90% of the shudder. I just received the lower motor mount today, but haven't had a chance yet to install it.

Or you could replace your clutch and have the flywheel resurfaced, but that would cost a bit more.

ya, the cold start reverse was bad. also it doesnt help that i live on a hill so reversing up a hill with a cold car i expected some shudder but it felt like the car almost died!

ill try out that engine damper and the motor mount combo because thats a lot cheaper than a clutch!

and to tom at gruppe s, you will be seeing my bussiness soon enough but i really dont have the cash for a new clutch after buying new blizzacks last week. in the coming months for sure though.

the clutch only slips in first gear. all other gears it holds power fine. im sure a new clutch is needed if i ever want to go to the track but im babying it for now.

That sounds right on the money. I just got the Powerflex motormount from Forge, so that will help right?

I'm stock with only 6000 miles, do you think i can get mitsubishi to replace the lumpy junk under warentee?
