1st gear shudder?!
1st gear shudder?!
Hey guys...I feel a bit foolish asking this question, but I could use your input. I bought a used '05 MR. From all indications, it wasn't beaten on (but how can you really tell, aside from looking in the wheel wells and on the exhaust for rubber?). I'm used to driving a '94 turbo Z, which has a completely different drivetrain. So, every once in a while, my evo shudders when I put it in 1st and start moving, especially under "normal" (i.e., granny-stylin') driving conditions. In the Z, I didn't even really have to hit the gas...there was enough low-end torque to get moving. Am I just not revving the engine enough, or (uggh...) do you think my MR was improperly broken in, and the clutch is in rough shape? I haven't had any slippage between gears, and the 6-speed shifts smoothly...I'm hoping it's just new ownership jitters and that I'm worrying about nothing, because I love that car.
ya i think it is pretty normal you will get use to it,butyour not going to tell if the car was beat on by rubber in the wheel wells it's all wheel drive.unless it's making 600 horsepower the rubber staying on the tire.
awd takes a little while to get use to. it'll take some time...
dont worry, now if you dont see yourself improving at all. then find some1 locally to drive with you, or drive the car and get their input
cheers!

Thanks for the input guys...sounds like it's relatively normal. Definitely more common in the cold, before the car warms up. I notice it's not a problem if I'm releasing the clutch over 2k rpm, so it's probably just me having to adjust my driving style to a totally different vehicle.
Good call on the wheel-well rubber...I thought of that when I first went out and launched the car myself, with zero wheelspin. But I figured at least I know the guy wasn't doing donuts in a parking lot, or taking it offroad and chipping up the fenders. Besides, nobody buys that car to just putt-putt around, so I have to accept it's probably seen its share of redlining.
