Question Roll-back Evo?!

Hi, I'm new to the forum and I thought that I would ask some adivce of those more in the know about evo's than me. My problem is thus: I have found an awesome '05 gsr that may have accidentally fallen into my price range, but it was a dealer roll-back . According to the dealer the original purchaser's financing fell through after a couple of months (whether or not to believe this is up to you, I'm not sure on my end). The dealer was gracious enough to take the car back with only 6k miles on it. After carfax-ing the vehicle I could see that it had never been titled and the car was in imaculate shape both inside and out. So my question is this: how much should I be planning to pay for it if I buy, what to look for if something may be screwed up, and should I consider buying a "roll-back" at all?

Also for warranty purposes the car was never sold so I would still get the 10/100K driveline.

Thanks in advance guys !

P.S. I was hoping to pay about 25k out the door seeing as it's a year old car now with 6k, and it's been sitting on their lot for at leas 7~8mos. (Thats what you get for asking 34k for a used evo that went for 31k new )

What is Blue Book on it? Usually they will sell them for whatever invoice is. Basically they have made some money on it from down payment or loan. They are looking to make money as always but my experience has been invoice or maybe a grand under. Since it has been on the lot for a while low ball the price a little and see what they say. You have nothing to lose.

Blue-Book still considers it new and quoted me @ 31K. I'm not about to pay that for a half-used evo.

I would offer them $3,000 below new invoice (not Blue Book, not MSRP). If they're anxious enough, they'll let it go.

6K miles is when a Demo can no longer be sold as "NEW" and seeing how it had never been titled it may,I repeat MAY have been someones demo. and then like posted above^^^^ $3000.00 below INVOICE would be a good deal.Good luck

I agree with turbo dan- should have been titled unless it had almost that many miles on it when sold.

I would also get something from them stating that the car has not been abused to this point so the warranty will not be affected. I believe that there is some kind of statement you can get from the service dept (with a lot of persuasion in some cases) that shows any holds on the warranty.

Ya if this was a roll-back (unwind) it should be a used car. It would have had to been titled to someone. Check the Carfax. This is a demo especially if you are in California. I sold cars in San Diego for a few months and all the cars that were unwinds we HAD to sell as used cars.

I bought my 2003 Evo with sunroof and carbon fiber spoiler as new with right at 120 miles on it at the end of Jan. 2005 for $25,500.

I should add, it had never been purchased, but had the wheels and spoiler ripped off while on the lot. They fixed it then put it up for $35K and sat on it for over a year. They said they'd sell it to me for $28K, and I told them call me when they'll let it go for $25K. A month later they called and said $26K and we settled at $25,500.

The plot thickens on this one guys, the owner of the mitsu/ford here just sold the dealership. They sold the ford half to a big dealer and the mitsu part to some cool guys who run a used car/audio shop. Hopefully the new owner and I will see eye to eye about the price on this one. The only drawback being the history of the car is pretty much gone, but the carfax is clean. What should I have my mechanic look for when I drag the car down there? Anything that could have been messed up if not broken in properly?

I'd do a compression test, leak down test, make sure no codes are stored in the ecu, underside visual, tire wear, and check the fluids. It had been purchased by someone who knew they were gonna lose it so just be extra cautious. On the drive, keep the radio off and listen for anything unusual. Evos are very durable cars and unless someone tried to break it (or just drove like ****) it will most likely be fine.

CHECK OIL LEVELS and consumption, when was it last checked, etc. . .break in is KEY for these cars, otherwise you'll be guzzling oil for the life of it like an RX-8!!
