Aftermarket oil filters

Mitsubishi decided to replace the original Japanese filter with a cheaper version that is all that is available here in the U.S.

What is severe Service? And why is the oil change made every 3.5k and not 5k.
DENSO makes the OEM filters. You can order them directly from DENSO if you go to: http://www.densoaftermarket.com/
I bought a case of 10.
In the past, I've used the Pure One (very nice) and the smaller Mobil 1 (scary small.. I won't use that again, but I couldn't find the bigger one). I'll stick with the DENSO's.

I bought 5 of the OEM filters from South Coast Mitsu a few weeks ago since they're 30% off. I also use them with Royal Purple oil.
I'll probably switch to the purolator when i run out of these.

I use Mobil 1 (M104, almost the same size as stock), but after reading this thread I think I might switch to the Pure One (cheaper and more efficient). I just wish there was more independent testing that compares the aftermarket filters to the stock filter. Maybe I should hookup a pump and cycle oil through each filter and connect the output to a secondary filter to catch any debris that made it through the oil filter (fill the oil with the same amount of debris for each)? The cleanest looking secondary filter would imply the better filter.
