i think sometimes a lotta people say oh it's not worth the extra money for a few hp... and yet big name racing teams spent that amount of money all the time for those tiny tiny extra few horses for those tiny seconds that all add up. imagine all the things that warr has said isn't worth it... if that could add up to another 10hp... and 30+ pounds of savings... that could make a big difference. at waht cost? well... the cost is up for the owner to decide the worth of. of course this is totally no good when going up against something that costs more and DOESN'T perform better/lighter.
i would like to know warr's stance on titanium parts tho... i think i shopped around for my greddy ti (actually nothing on my car is new, all used) and it's one of the best systems out... for the price you can still get a br full turboback... but i think the weight is priceless.

Warrtalon; I learn a lot from many of your posts and appreciate you sharing your knowledge and willingness to share it. That being said; I think this post is pretty uncalled for. Not everyone wants to go down your fastest for cheapest route. If that was the case; I would have got a civic hatchback; dropped a built motor in there; turbocharge it; and run much quicker times than you for about 30% of the cost of your MR and parts; if even that. People actually enjoy modifying their vehicles and having individuality in the parts they choose; if everyone ran a megan exhaust and dynoflash; where the hell would the fun be in that? And everyone is scared to even reply or comment to you when you start bashing them for asking a simple question or not following your mentality. Instead of typing in "search" a hundred times a day; you could have answered 100 questions. Not everyone is going for the best horsepower vs. cost ratio only; some people get certain parts because the way they sound; look; brand loyalty;quality; etc. I don't see anything wrong w/ that; since it is their car to begin with. They should do what makes them happy. To the original thread creator; I really like the HKS Kansai cf induction cover; I saw it up close on the HKS evo. Very nice piece! First time seeing that brand of exhaust components as well. Congrats

$2800 is a helluva lot of money for not even having the full exhaust yet or even cams. Granted, you got some high quality parts, no doubt, but I don't think you'd be anywhere near my power level or track results with the parts you displayed.

If I were the average Evo owner, for an additional $1500 to reach your $2800, I would then buy a set of cams ($550), an alky kit ($500), an LICP ($170?), and a reflash ($300 for custom road tune reflash) I suppose. That would put me at an estimated 370-380whp on 93oct (Dynojet).$2800 is a helluva lot of money for not even having the full exhaust yet or even cams. Some people ( like myself) do not care if we did not get the cheapest mod offering the best performance; and that is the entire point. Trying to force that mentality onto others.Originally Posted by poormansracecar

Man, come on, the only thing more old than my stance on this issue is people trying so hard to justify buying expensive parts for no reason other than this whimsical "I want to be different" angle. Look, the post you quoted was MY RESPONSE to the original poster who ASKE ME for my explanation. He then PM'd 3 separate times for more advice so that he could make better decisions in the future. He had no idea that it was possible to get 2X the gains with nearly half the money spent. I didn't offer this full explanation that you quoted until the original poster asked me to, so don't get on my case. Read the whole thread and notice how many times I had to say that the original poster didn't realize he could have done more with his money and asked for my help with his next mods. Also, the whole "I can buy a beat up civic for next-to-nothing, drop a turbocharged built motor in it and run faster than you" analogy is old and irrelevant, too. I have never said the point of buying an Evo is to see how fast you can go in the 1/4-mile for the least amount of money. Originally Posted by bonestockevo8

ALL I'M TALKING ABOUT IS GETTING THE MOST FOR YOUR MONEY - THAT'S ALL. He got very little for his money other than impressing people who think Jay-Dee-Emm is cool. There are no extra gains, and you can't see any of those mods when driving/racing.

I don't understand why people are so scared. Warr is only human. Members act like if they get the greddy TBE over the megan TBE warr is gonna hulk smash them or something. Originally Posted by bonestockevo8

Well, in alot of your post (this has nothing to do with the thread starter) you condemn members for not buying a cheaper part over a more expensive part and you follow that up with the same thing over and over again, "I spent XXXX and ran XX". Members havent forgotten, we all know you spent 1k and are running low 12's. Some members take pride in buying more expensive parts because they want to or because they can afford it. Even if there paying for name, that's up to the owner.Originally Posted by Warrtalon

It's piece of mind or pride that you own the part, even if the JDM cost is $1000 or the cheaper cost is $50... who are you to question? Originally Posted by Warrtalon

Warr, don't take this personal. Ive seen you give great advice and ive seen you say some stuff that straight out of left field. Im just speaking out on some of the mentality of your post(s).

There's nothing to take personal. You're proposing/defending a theory that only applies to a small percentage of people - most who buy the Jay-Dee-Emm parts don't know any better and just think it's the cool thing to do. Very few percentage-wise spend thousands extra for no measurable gains just because of "pride" of ownership. Yeah, they feel cool when telling their friends and online buddies that they have Greddy-this, HKS-that, or Tomei-those. The parts are high quality, but the differences in quality/performance/looks aren't equal to the difference in cost. Unfortunately, many in the import tuning arena have been fooled into thinking otherwise. I simply try to make sure "they" know there are altnernatives that provide MUCH more gains for the same price (or less). After that, they are free to tell me to stick it up my ***, which is fine.Originally Posted by Arithmetic

War ya once agian that is right i didnt realise i could have got those results for the price you paid but even if i did before i would still have bought the same products. Now if you got what you did with your mods i dont see why i cant get the same if not more. I am sure my setup now with its apexi ecu and electronic boost controller will do a better job of running my car and probably safer.Originally Posted by Warrtalon

This disscusion could go on for ever. But it all comes back to the same thing I am happy with my purchases and i dont feel i paid too much i shopped around and got them a hell of a lot cheaper than some shops charge and at the end of the day i have ended up with the stuff i want on my car and i wont finish there next might be cams and then some coilovers and thats going to cost more money but at the end of the day you cant bring your maney with you so enjoy it while you have it.
