Is this a good intercooler? does it have any fitment issues and are there any powergains. And how is the quality? myevostore sells them for 695 bucks but does it come with the piping also? I've searched and didnt answer all my questions?

From what ive gathered on it, its good quality, doesnt come with piping for that price and requires the splash guard to be trimmed.

Yes,terday I made a interesting observation, the Evo8 has a much larger opening for the intercooler on the front bumper than the Evo 9.

If you have the chance to see it the Evo 8 has two pillars on the bumper, one on each side of the intercooler, this pillars are maybe a couple of inches wide while on the Evo 9 they are at least 5-6" wide.

If you upgrade your intercooler on your Evo9 to a big intercooler like the Buschur Race, Perrin or Nisei you are not getting the same cooling efect as on the Evo8.
Please, take your time to find a pic of both Evo 8 and Evo9 and you see exactly what I am talking about.

There is no arguing here, the pint is very clear, the Evo 9 has a smaller cooling window on the bumper which directly blocks the airflow.

This is from my own cars(observe the gap):

i have actually chaged my mind on getting the evo 9 front bumper for just that purpose.

just like you said, the opening on the 9 doesnt look like it can handle any type of upgraded fmic

while the 8 has the space.

burningmoney97,

I heard you bro. I will really hate to see a Evo owner spending money on something that is not going to get you any significant results.

Here is the link I opened about the Evo 9 Front bumper/intercooer issue.

If I were you, i'd follow this thread and wait untill David Buschur posts the results of him testing the FMICs.

There is soo much that a vendor/tuner/engineer can do, here we are talking about physical limitations, the front pillars are too freaking wide and they are in direct path.

Obviously they are not on the path when you refer to the stock intercooler but definately they block anything 2" bigger than the stock intercooler core.

Either the vendors/tuners/engineer work on other intercooler parameters(shape, cooling fins, design, materials, etc) or someone has to come out with a redesigned Evo 9 bumper.

Remember, I claim that the stock Evo 9 bumper is great and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, I am just bringing the potencial issue of performance when upgrading a a much bigger core, you wouldn't get the performance expected for what you paid for..
