Agreed +1 .... Don't worry they'll get it fixed for you, thats what a warranty is for ...

Just wanted to say, i used to be on the whole royal purble synerlac BS train too. Dont get me wrong, its a good oil, but not even close to Mobil 1, Redline or Amsoil. We build road race cars in the production catagory for SCCA nationals, and researching oils is something I had to do for the team. Surprisingly, Royal Purple did not test as high as I thought it would. And as soon as I switched to Mobil 1 and Redline I noticed how much better oil temps were and many other things. We have experience oil temps at 300+ and drained the oil out of the car after the race to only find crystal clear Mobil 1, Purple would be at least black and might have failed.

If you dont believe me, do a search on oil bible. Read.... You'll see and you'll be happy you can save $ at the same time. Also use Mobile 1 oil filters, they're the highest flowing, and highest rate of filtration you can buy, aside from a real racing filtration system.

Hope your car gets fixed. And stick with Mobil 1 every 3000-5000, dumping at 1000 is a waste. Dont worry about metal, thats what a filter is for. Also, if theres that much metal, you have other issues.

I don't have time to read this whole thread but I wouldn't be suprised if they deny your warranty (if you tell them what oil you used) :\

keep us posted.
I also had this error code (P0300) which was fixed (so far) from the dealer administered reflash of the stock ECU on my 04 GSR.

The funny thing is, that none of the service paperwork mentions the defect or the reflashing. Probably because evos have been returned as lemons because of this defect.

Did the car actually misfire? Mine would misfire and throw the check engine light due to this code. Did you notice any performance deficiencies? or just the check engine light? Maybe if you drink a beer it will go away! Probably not.

Keep in mind that my Evo is completly stock, i did replace the oil with Royal Purple at 1k miles, but thats it. So now my brand new evo 9 is going in for major engine work and i will be out of a vehical for a week or more. I'm not very happy.
Hey i was wondering if you ever found out what caused the P0301 code to come up? I have had my 06 MR since December 05 and about a month ago i install the Buschur/Warrtalon IX Stage 1 and got a custom flash from Al and the car has been running great. On saturday the SES came on and i just reset it and i had no problem till last night and it shot on again. You can definitely tell the car is misfiring and it bucks. Let me know if you figured anything out, thanks.

Why don't you pull the code? Take it to autozone or whatever and they will do it for free and give you the code and you can come back here to see what the problem is.

I keep getting P0420 for my cat even though I still have my stock exhaust, I think thats good incentive to just throw a test pipe there lol.

royal purple is more "synthetic" than the current mobil 1, but that's a debate for another thread.

Well, even though you guys just keep talking about oil even though the original thread was started because of the P0301 code, i just wanted to add a little bit to my post from before. I took the car to Advanced and had a friend of mine scan if for me and P0304 came up, Cylinder 4 Misfire. So we checked out the plugs and swapped them between cylinder 2 and 4 to see if maybe cylinder 4 spark plug was bad, well that wasn't it. I started my own thread to try and get some info on my problem, if you guys want to check it out or think you could help me out in any way please post, heres the link...

I'm not trying to jack Pineboy's thread but if you click his profile, his last activity was on March 9th, so i don't think he has been on here in a while...

I haven't heard of any MR going that bad that soon. I know a few guys with nearly 30k on the engine and running big power(one has 400WHP plus) and no problems.

Please, keep us posted, that is a very isolated case I think!
Dieseal that i don't know, but it is ok to put 87 OCT. cuz EVO's computer will shut your boost if it detects a lower octane than 91. and by the way, my EVO was in the dealer cuz my F Winshield washer pump was not working for some reseaon, it took only one day for them to fix, but they gave me a lexus to drive for that day, it's slow but at least i dont have to take the stinky bus to work. lol. Ask them for a car to drive, they SHOULD give u one.

Sounds like they're just guessing at what could be wrong. I wonder if they have a borescope that they can use before they start taking stuff apart when it might be a newer version of an old problem. I hope all is well.

Incorrect. The computer will lower boost when more airflow comes in...

Timing will be retarded as knock occurs.

In both cases 87 octane is unacceptable for on-boost driving.
