Question Oil Filter for IX?

What's going on guys? I did a search on this but couldn't come up with anything, only threads on filters for the 8's. I just got my evo MR IX a little over a month ago and i have about 1200 miles on it now. I would like to change the oil soon or at 1500 miles. From what i have read, if you don't use the factory mitsu filter, you have to use a "sandwich filter adapter." It seemed that the K&N, Bosch, and Mobil 1 filters worked well on the 8's. Do you guys know what filters, besides the factory Mitsu filter, work on the 9's? Do the 9's have to use the "sandwich filter adapter" too? Do the K&N, Bosch, and Mobil 1 filters also work well on the 9's? Would i have to use this "sandwich filter adapter" with the K&N, Bosch or Mobil 1 filters on the 9's? I used all 3 of those filters on my 97 GSX, and they all seemed to work well. If you guys could let me know which filter works the best on the 9's without using the "sandwich filter adapter?" Also filter part numbers would be helpful if you guys have them, thanks a lot. If this has already been talked about in another thread, post it please, and sorry if this is a repost.

I think my stock mr is the factory md35600 filter. I have a few lying around so I'll probably use them either way.

Question

So when i was at work yesterday i went to the service department and asked if they had any oil filters for the IX. I gave him my vin # and he came back with a filter. The part # for the filter is MZ690116, and he also came back with a small metal gasket and the part # for that was MD050317. This is a factory Mitsu filter and i'm pretty sure its made by Denzo. Any of you other guys with a IX let me know if this is the right filter, i don't want to have the car up in the air and have the oil draining and then find out its not the right one. Thanks a lot.

I went to the part # request page and i got these two...

MD356000 MR oil filter
MZ690116 oil filter

My car is a MR IX. Is there a difference between the oil filters for the VIIIs and IXs?

I just did a oil change last night, I used the Bosh oil filter but I was going to use the Mobil one(it costs twice as much). The shape of the Bosh was different than the Stock but it would not mater as long as the inner rubber ring matches the stock inner rubber ring(same diameter)

You can go ahead and order oil filters for an Evo 8 and they will fit fine.

Good luck!!

EVO9GRL, do you by any chance have the part numbers for the Bosch and Mobil 1 oil filters? If you do or if anybody else does, please post them, thanks.

MZ690116 and MD050317 are the correct #'s for the filter and the DPG.

Help me understand something here folks. What are you trying to accomplish by NOT using a factory filter? Why use anything else?

I just changed the oil in my 9 MR, and used a mobil 1 filter from autozone. Whatever they had listed for an evo 8. Fit fine. Wasn't about to drive completely across town and the dealer wasn't even open when I needed a filter, so I just went with what autozone had.

Well i just jacked up my IX MR and the # on the filter is MD356000. When i was at work the other day and gave them my VIN # the service manager came back with with MD690116 filter. The filters look exactly the same, so is there any difference in these filters? Why does Mitsu have 2 different oil filters for the evos? Will it be okay if i use the MD690116 filter instead of the MD356000?

I replaced the filter myself on m IX when i had 1000 miles on it with Mitsu part# MZ690116 which is what the VIII's were using. I now have 4000 miles on the car and no problems so far.

No, same filter. One comes whrn the car is brand new. The other is when you change the oil. The guy behind the service desk told me this anyways.

Thanks. Yeah just like keevo54 said they are both the same filter. I searched a little more to find that a brand new evo comes with the MD356000 filter on them cause thats the part # overseas. But over here the part # is MD690116. No difference in filters at all just part #s change from overseas to here. Later
