afgcfan, it would be unwise for you to get a monster car like this at the age of 18 when entering college. It will be over 30k, which will be around $600/mo for payments plus another $200-300/mo in insurance, plus expensive maintenance down the line after only a year or so ($1000 for tires, $1500 for clutch, $300-400 for brake pads, $70 oil changes every 3 months, $30/week for gas, etc etc). If it's all being paid for by your parents, then I have a very good suggestion:

1) Tell your parents you want an Evo IX that costs $35k. Then, tell them that you don't think it would be wise for a college freshman to have this as a first car, then ask for a used Honda Civic that costs $10k and have them put the other $25k in a money market account.

2) Enjoy your cheap, high gas mileage, worry-free Civic for 4 years, then when you graduate and have to go off to find your own income with your own job and own place to live, take that $25k+interest and get yourself an Evo XI...
Awesum idea but parents wud only help with down payment were not rich
What bout a good substitute instead of an Evo, i was thinkin bout a 06 civic si cus its like $19k so i think it will be easier to afford that. Sux it will be hard for me to get an Evo at this point i just love the way the car is. Have to deal with sumthin cheap and long lasting then look towards the future for a Evo i guess

To answer you're question without acting like a worried person...

No, because you are still debating it. When you are 169.3% sure, you can get one.

If I were you, I would have second thoughts about owning a new car, especially when it's not going to be paid off. If you must get it, I would get something economical like Hybrid Civic which will be light on GAS and INSURANCE. I would avoid working many hours just to be able to afford new car payment and insurance.

Parents help will make all the difference in the world. If your folks are willing to initially back you and even continue to help out, I say go for it. I've been out of school for years now and I honestly had an easier time keeping my ride mishap-free in college compared to experiences with some of the asses running around in the general public. Then again, I'm currently in Vegas!

I think that's a much better idea, although I would suggest a used SI that's a few years old. Unless your parents are giving a huge down payment, you really should stop worrying so much about brand new cars that most people aren't ever able to afford, especially as kids in college with no real job.

Ya but the older si look kinda ugly no offense. For the down payment my parents are willing to put down around $2k and i can help with more if needed. But that being said how much will the monthly payments be around for the 06 si. Thanks for all input again.

almost everyone is giving you great advice, honestly this car is too much for you at your age, you don't want spend your young life living from paycheck to paycheck because sometimes there are more important things to focus on. You need to be looking at college first not a new ride, and if you do get a new ride, get a corolla or anything that can take you from place to place and is cheap and easy to maintain. whatever your decision, i hope you know that buying an expensive car is a huge commitment and there will be sacrifies, but good luck and power to you if you get the evo. take care.

Well, once you start getting away from talking about the Evo, this thread no longer applies. You will need to discuss Civics in the Other Cars forum on the SI forum.

I didn't know how much help you were going to get from your folks. I definitely change my mind on saying "go for it." Certainly don't get an Evo!

I'm sorry to say, but $2k isn't going to help much as a down payment. 7% sales tax alone on a $19k car would be $1330.

Financing $18k for 60 months at 6% interest will be around $350/month.
