well i didnt get quoted that high for an Evo. Its actually a little more than my Integra for full coverage.

And to me, its still wrong to "sterotype" the younger group. I am still young and I hate when people say that crap around me. Its as if they know any better or they act like they never did any stupid **** when they were young. Like I said, I have my fun, but when its appropriate and in the right setting. (Im sure you all do too.)

Like someone else was saying here, what if you pulled up to, say a...., mustang or vette. those american car guys are like, "look at this ricer," or whatever they want to call you (Evo, japanese car, etc, etc.) some of those guys make some serious power and you try and them and get burned......i wouldnt want them stereotyping me with the "ricer" class and such. its just something to think about.

As i was driving by a group of bikes parked on the side of the road where people cruise (i had to go to the baseball field to play softball) anyways this guy walks out in front of my car and makes me stop. and another guy comes to my window and says, hey i'll race you for a hundred bucks.

I just said no and drove away i was like WTF! well hmmm u mean u want me to give you a hundred bucks, obviously your going to beat me, my EVO was stock i just picked it up like a week before hand

I find it very annoying when people stereotype "kids". I am 17, i got my evo when i was 16 and that was because I earned my parents trust and respect and I took a few different driving and karting courses to learn how to handle the car before getting it. I do not street race, i think that it is quite possibly one of the dumbest and most dangerous things a person can do. I dont feel that I have to prove anything by revving my engine or driving like a dick. Yes, there are a lot of kids my age that do this kind of stuff, but not everybody does it. In fact, in the area where I live I find that more adults are trying to race me and my friends. Just the other day I had some old man (probably mid to high 50's) in a carrera revving next to me and flashing his brights at me. The road was completely open, no one for a couple of miles at least. I could have easily gotten away with racing him, but it wasnt worth it to me, so when he pulled up next to me I flicked him off and slowed down to 5 under the speed limit to get away from him. Ive had instances like this happen to me countless times and 80% of the time it is by older men driving anything from a ferrari 360 to a beat up old pickup truck.
Sorry for the long post, its just annoying to be stereotyped as a bad/unsafe/stupid driver because I hear it very often. Like said above, its perfectly fine to tell a story like this, but please do not say, "what is up with 16 year olds," instead say something like, "What is up with THIS 16 year old," or something like that in which you do not stereotype people. That's the problem with America today-everyone is stereotyping everyone else. Someone sees one or two mexicans or puerto ricans with a big wing on their car and a loud exhaust and immediately thinks that everyone of that nationality puts wings/mufflers on their car. It's just an ignorant thing to say and it will seriously offend some people if they hear it. So, please, just reword what you say in the future so you do not stereotype against us "kids" or anyone for that matter.
Thanks,
Nick

This is why I think that the producers, director, and script writers of 'Fast & the Furious' should be flogged. Dumb movies like this only reinforces stupid behavior.

I agree.

I am truly concerned about the future of this forum if some of it's members actually believe in stereotypes such as the age stereotype. That is just plain narrow-mindedness. You know, I hope you guys know that there is such a thing called ageism. Ageism is just as serious of a problem as racism and sexism. I am surprised the mods have not added something or another in the rules regarding age stereotyping by now.

That would greatly improve and clean up these forums.

and if 9 out of ten civics or jettas that cut me off doing stupid crap are young.. does that still make it a stupid stereo type? stereo types exist for a reason. If a certain amount of people in this age bracket didn't drive this way the stereo type would not exist... it does exist and that's because many, not ALL but MANY do drive this way.

sorry that you other people that don't drive this way get grouped into the stereo type.

every one of us is stereo typed the instant a cop sees our cars. Is it fair, no. Cop sees big wing + fast driver. Has he seen enough drivers with big wings driving really fast to make the stereotype? probably... fair no, justified probably.

20 reasons to hate an EVO

Found this on the car lounge.

1. The interior is made out of potatoes
2. it's exhaust fumes are known to kill babies on contact.
3. I heard it will tear your skin off if you look at it sideways...
4. it punched my brother in the face then it kicked me in the shins and ran off while spraypainting the side of my house.
5. It will eat your grandmas underpants and mail them to your boss.
6. It time travelled back to 1943 to Auschwitz and did nothing to stop it.
7. Rumor has it, it raped Rosario Dawson at a posh Hollywood party
8. It voted for Nader
9. In it's previous life it was responsible for the bubonic plague
10. MIVEC is just another term for fetus power.
11. At night, ot goes out and hunts old ladies from the treetops.
12. For some, it's the alpha AND the omega. And that means doomsday.
13. It's in cahoots with Osama.
14. It pistol whipped the last guy that said shenanigans
15. It broke a photo of the pope on national TV, then burned it.
15. It steals from local charities
16. The 4G63 was designed by Lucifer himself, so he gets royalties.
17. God smote the Evo... and it just turned and laughed at him.
18. It's responsible for Original Sin.
19. It doesn't care about black people.
20. It gave Santa the finger.

EVERY SINGLE TIME that I have been challenged to a street race at a stoplight, it was by a male in his late teens through early twenties. I don't street race and usually just ignore them. This has been the case for years now. It never seems to be 40 year old accountants or 65 year old grandmothers.

So there is a trend. I wouldn't call this ageism. I'd call it a recognizing a trend. And for the record, when I was in high school I was that kid street racing. I'm not too proud of that.

Perhaps by the time we reach our mid-twenties we discover other, safer outlets for high-performance driving (e.g., HPDE, karting, auto-X)?

Anyway, let's stay safe out there guys. I'd hate to hear of anyone here getting hurt or killed on the road.

exactly...

I must say I was shocked when challenged by a guy in his late 40's the other night in his band new M5 at a light on a 3 lane wide highway on each side with a straight stretch of nothing in front of us. I wanted to see what it could do so I just did a slight slip into first to see how fast the m5 was and at about 65 we both stopped f'n around. for the record I'm 29.

yea whats up with all the stereotypes? im 17, and ill admit that when i first got my license and my lancer i drove a lil crazy, driving fast on road, attempting the ocassional street race, but after about a week i realized how stupid it all was...yea i speed everynow and then but i really dont race, at the most a quick run to the speed limit with my friends and thats it, i see alot more of older ppl driving crazy in their vettes and firebirds...i had a guy like around 30 tryin to race me last week in his monty carlo and it kinda annoyed me. i already knw that my car isnt fast so im not goin to try and pretend that its not and end up hurting myself/my car or getting ticketed...
