starting the car keyless - Compustar

Just talk to my security alarm installer and he said that Alarm (compustar) can start the car without the key? No bypass module, nada.

Did anyone had the same issue? I though the key was with chip????

That is true, if installed correctly. You do need an Evo specific bypass module with the alarm though.

... and that bypass module needs to have one of your keys inside the module in order to work properly.

One thing is, if it is a remote starter, than it is no good in standard transmission vehicles. Automatics meanwhile, are another thing.

The way it works is that, they get one of your keys and cut it and put the black part(where the chip is) in a secure box in the steering column for the remote start to work. But you have to remember that if you park you car in gear or not. It will not start if left in gear which is a failsafe system of Compustar. So if you are the type of person like me that always park in gear, than the remote start is useless.

Why would they cut the key??? That key would be useless unless you want to open doors and that's it. It's easier to go to Home Depot and make a duplicate (mind it'd only work to open doors) and use the original key in the bypass device.

The clutch is also bypassed, so this will work on manual transmission cars as well.

I wouldn't recommend getting auto-start for a car with a manual. Ones of those days you're gonna come home drunk and leave the car in gear, when u start it up the next morning you can wave your evo good bye

The reason they would cut the key part is that is the thief finds the key, they can start the car and take off. I don't think you read my post. I said the key with the chip on it, not the valet key.

AFAIK there is no valet key on the EVO. Also if the theif manages to break into a car with that kind of alarm, then I don't think a key will stop him from starting the car and take off. I see your point thou.

Thats the funny thing that it works without the bypass module. Works perfectly fine, would not start in gear. (for those who said about cuting a key, there is a new bypass module that can be programed to the code so it doesnt neet the key, However my car for some reasons did not need any).

They must have disabled the stock immobilizer. I think this is one of the reasons that I see Evos getting stolen. They found a way to disable the immobilizer. Get an install from a reputable shop. Also, if you can, pay in cash and don't tell them your address.

I was going to say that, your stock inmobilizer was bypassed. About paying cash, it makes good sense.

I actually had remote start on my Honda SI... I never left the car in gear, but one day I was playing basketball at a church and I let a friend go use the car to buy drinks and he left my car in first gear. When we left the church I turned on my car using remote start and it did not mess up tranny or anything, but THE DAM CAR STARTED DRIVING BY ITSELF. I paniced forgetting I could turn it back off from remote and started chasing the car hahahaha.
