SPEED channel dropped WRC! Sign the programming petition!

as I have said before if they put the WRC on a a descent time in the evening, then they would get viewers, I would always miss the last 15 mins on a Sunday night, cause I, like many others have work on a Monday, and I don't have a VCR that works worth of crap, I was even thinking of getting a DVR just to record the WRC, now I don't have a reason to get one, I have Bright house networks and Speed is part of the upper tier, but I am seriously thinking of cancelling all the other channels just for the fact that Speed dropped WRC out of principal alone. No loss to me what so ever. There is only like 8 channels of HD available and out of those 8 HD Discovery is about the only really good channel, and that has been showing a lot of repeats lately.
it's the younger generations I really feel for, all these kids know about the STI and Evo from games like GT4 etc, now they won't get a chance to actually see a rally prepared car in real life

I agree with you, that it will get viewership, but bottom line is not the same viewership that nascar will bring, and as an advertiser, I want the most viewers, hence no wrc and more nascar. I like wrc, but it is not big in the states, and nascar is. spreading this petition around the internet, I bet you get lucky and find 20,000 people. I could find half that just in my town of 400,000 to sign a nascar petition without even trying(and yes, I despise nascar and the constant driving in a circle
)
not sure of the "younger" generation that you are talking about but kids are not drooling over these cars dying to see them in a rally show, they play them on gt4, then want to buy one because they are ruling the streets in the import scene right now thanks to 2f2f and shows/mag's like that. they see them on the street and want one. as an example, I have a friend at work that has 2 teenage boys, 16 and 14. both pick the evo as their car of choice on gt3 when they play. friend tried to get them to watch wrc, they said they would rather see one on the street, no-one over here in the states would ever drive an evo like that.
I kind of see it as a catch-22. rallying will never catch on in the us if it doesn't get airtime and local events going, but it isn't ever going to get airtime because in the us, nascar sells, and there will never be events like you see in europe because there's no airtime or sponsor $$.
good luck with your endeavors..

yeha the reason is beacuse theres not a enought people who watch it in the USA.
People in the US dont really like the BMW 5series new style. I mean die-hard people like yourself and I will watch it but other normal people dont.
How about a petition to get Mitsu and Subaru to compete in some American Race series like the Grand Am Cup Series? With the success of the private Subaru team in the SCCA p2 division this year, there was some talk about a factory backed effort next year. I would honestly rather see that then more WRC races.
Bring back speedvision and not the Nascar channel
I signed...
It isn't that Nascar pays the bills. it is that Fox own the channel, and can run nascar stuff without having to pay anyone else for the time and money invested into getting other programs.

I've done some research and in turn I found this.
"This is my first post. I came to this forum because I am concerned about 2006 WRC coverage.
I called my tv provider (DirectTV) and made a formal request that EuroSport I and II were picked up in the channel lineup. I made sure I was transferred to the appropriate department for the request. They promised a follow-up once they researched my request.
PLEASE CONTACT YOUR TV PROVIDERS AND ASK FOR EUROSPORT
As many of you know EuroSport has full WRC coverage. I'll take whatever I can get, whether from SpeedTV or EuroSport.
DirectTV

Even if you have a different TV provider, the more attention EuroSport gets the more likely we will get continued WRC coverage. As I understand it, they are the source for SpeedTV.

And to be clear, I am not saying anything bad about SpeedTV, just doing my best to make sure I can view the 2006 season if Speed doesn't pick up WRC this year. If Speed picks up WRC, then I will watch it on Speed."
I checked out the eurosport page www.eurosport.com and it seems pretty nice. They cover WRC, F1, Indy, Dakar Rally, DTM, SCCA, and many other racing programs that we cannot see in the United States due to overplaying of Left turn racing. If you guys have any interest in following these motorsports I ask you to please, spend 10 minutes on the phone with your provider and formally request that Eurosport I and II be added to your providers lineup. And all I have to say to speed is bye bye if no WRC, I'm canceling my subscription for sure.
