My EVO squats under hard acceleration....

well, tonight in NYC sure was pretty cold out. I called my buddy who owns an MR and said hey I need to take ya for a ride in my newly tuned EVO. So anyway we went out for a run on the highway and I got to push he car to a point where I havent gone before and I must say with the power I have that I'm impressed.

I honestly feel that back to back my EVO will smoke the modded SRT4 that I previously had with much ease

On the way back home I ran into a RR EVO MR which was honking at me from 2-3 lanes over....and somehow we managed to catch up and chit chat a bit and trade numbers after the red light.

Anyhow, I found this long stretch of road that is about 1/2 mile long that goes thru a forest with no cars, no people. From a 20 MPH 1st gear roll I floored it and speed shifted thru every gear, and managed to max out 4th gear before I slowed it down....

Anyhow, under hard acceleration I notice that the EVO squats a lot. Yes my suspension is bone stock, and thru most gears the nose of the car is pointing in the air and thru the top of first gear I noticed a bit of torque steer as if the two front wheels came off the ground....

My question is how do we prevent the car from squatting? and will this hurt my 60' times?

Let the flamefest begin

times wont suffer much cause its good weight transfer to the rear wheels so that helps with not spinning, but your one real fix for squat, roll, or dive is a good set of coilovers.. congrats on the new power and be safe..

weight transfer to the rear gives the rear tires excellent traction. thats why rear drivers usually get front drivers off the line.

You could try stiffer rear shocks, but if you watch vids of High hp AWD cars, they all squat. I wouldnt sweat it too much...

I've noticed that when I installed the powerflex motor mount my front end doesn't flex as much under hard acceleration, or at least feel like the front tires are lifting.

I have the Buschur Racing front motor mount installed, and even so, my front end lifts up a lot and it kinda felt like the two front wheels were gonna come off the ground since I felt a bit of torque steer. The car also wanted to go to the left, but I had to hold on tight to the steering wheel and point the car straight

The evo is too stiff in the rear already which makes it so bouncy, I don't think you should go with anything stiffer in the rear because it could throw off the balance.

Actually from what I can tell the rear end as pro-squat suspension geometry, which is of course the opposite of anti-squat geometry. I feel the reason Mitsubishi did this was because with such a high horsepower car with so little weight in the rear they had to shift as much weight as possible to help acceleration out of corners.

This was an option that I had thought of, but i have decided to leave the cars stock springs/shocks on since I think for the street the car handles decent already.

I want my OEM ground clearance for NYC streets...

The suspension is stock now, the only mods I'll do to it are the OEM RS trunk bar, a good alignment within factory adjustment parameters, and maybe a rear strut bar....and if the OEM shocks ever blow, Ill just buy a used set of MR Bilsteins....

Add rebound on the front, that will control weight transfer to the rear without having to add compression dampening to the rear. Not that you would want to (or you may) do that but it is an option if you have adjustable shock (which we don't have stock). For maximum acceleration the trick is to have the front/rear drive bias match the weight transfer. Toss it all those thoughts out the window for going around corners though
