Changing the shift knob....

I want to change the stock Evo shift know. Have anyone switched theirs out yet?

I was looking at the knob and its attached to the boot, is it easy to take off? Is the knob specific to the boot?

Thanks!

ok, but does it attach to the boot though? I dont want to replace the knob and find out that my new shift knob looks funny w/ the boot cause of some attachments on the boot.

i switched to a Ralliart one. Just unscrew the original and screw in the new one. Sparco or Momo knobs use allen screws to attach to the shifter.

My Evo is white so I got the white one. It's pricey. $37 for a plastic knob but it looks sharp. It's from www.japanparts.com. I got the coilover key chain too!

Just got the MMC Aluminum knob in silver. It's very nice and is direct screw-on replacement for the stock knob. It's slightly smaller than the stock one and sits about 1.5 cm lower....kinda pricey at $122 but the fitment is worth it (until another solution is developed instead of using three allen screws, e.g. Momo).

Rev on,
Leonardo

Yea, the MMCA Ralliart shift knob looks nice. So do the e-brake handle and the pedals. Sure they're pricey but I figure buying things from the dealership is like buying bread at a convenience store, it costs a lot more but damn it sure was easy to pick up.

Actually, Claudius, I remember it looking different than that. In fact, I don't think it has 1-5 and R on it. I might be smoking crack though.

Edit: I think I was smoking crack. This picture is small but it looks very similar to the one you posted, Claudius.

I bought the silver MMC knob pictured above for $95 from my parts guy a couple of weeks ago. As was mentioned in another post, the knob is definitely shorter than the stock leather knob which results in slightly shorter shift throws. This combined with the added weight of the billet knob, creates a much nicer more solid feel to the shift throws. Easy to install, just unscrew the stocker and screw on the new knob. Once you have it tightened you install the shift pattern emblem and you are finished!

I just picked-up the matching silver footpedal kit today for $64. It was a little more difficult to install, but looks and feels a lot better than the stocker.

I have said this before, and will reiterate it again....shop around for the accessories. The dealership sells me the parts at their list with an added 15% off. If you are not getting something similar I would check around!

So changing the shift knob is like changing the shift knob of an automatic?
