Clean out grease from engine

Hey guy, what do you guy use to clean your engine. I mean like getting all the grease out and everything else that is building up on it. I was thinking about getting some engine degreaser and throw it on there and wash it up. Is this recomended. What do I have to cover up inside engine compartment so water do get on it when I hose it off. Thanks. Any advice will be appreciated.

I use brake cleaner. Regular degreaser you have to rinse off with water. whereas brake cleaner evaporates quickly when you wipe it with a towel....

Gunk Citrus Engine Brite. Spray it on, let sit for 15-20 mins and rinse off with water...and voila!!!!!!! Can has a dual stage spray tip, lets you get in those tight areas really nice. I think I bought mine from Auto Zone, but most auto stores should carry it. Good luck to you, and remember to cover up any electrical accessories!!!

I use some armorol engine bay cleaner, just cover up your intake and don't spray any of the electrical stuff directly, afterwards wipe the engine back with a rag.

cleaning the ol' Type-R was easy.
Open hood...spray w/ simple Green Engine Cleaner (blk bottle) -covering Battery,Dist, and intake cone if you have one.

Spray all on engine valve cover etc.Crank car w/ hood closed and let run for 5-10 mins while it burns everything off and Steam Cleans everything....then turn car off...open hood and Spray w/ High pressure Hose @ car wash.

Done and its Perfectly clean!

I'm not sue about the EVo though...far to much stuff going on then a Honda/Acura engine bay.

Simple green. IMO its the best stuff you can use for your eng. It cleans everything without fadding or discoloring. And it smells good.

Bump for Simple Green. Don't leave it on too long or it might discolor plastics/metal. Cover anything electrical, and everything associated with your ignition (plugs/wires/etc). It's safest to:

A. Wash only a cold engine. Spraying cold water on a hot engine is a recipe for cracks.

B. Hose the engine with a stream, not a spray (direct the water only where you want it).

if your car won't start after you wash it... just wait.

NO!!!! Use brake cleaner only on metal and preferably non painted metal. It's a degreaser and is extremely detrimental to rubber parts.
