Question Replacing a Ripped Control Arm Ball Joint Boot? Grease question

Hey all-

I recently did some of the Whiteline Upgraded bushings and ripped a couple of the ball joint boots with the pickle fork, of course on an accident.. My question is.. Can I use any type of grease when refilling these that is made for ball joints? I bought a can of Mobil One Synthetic Grease, will this work? Also, I lost quite a bit of grease that was leaking out of the boot.. so how much should I put back in to the new boot? It seems like there is a TON of grease in there from the factory and it seems like when I put the control arm back on and tighten the ball joint nut back up.. It will cause the boot to squeeze together and leak out grease every where.. Any information is very helpful guys! I would greatly appreciate it.. This is my first time dealing with ball joints and split boots so I really want to do it right.. Of course I am fully capable with some guidance. Thanks so much!!

I am not sure if it is a whiteline joint I would recommend contacting them to see what they would say to use.

I have a couple of whiteline ones for the front, but I'm not sure if I'm going to install.. so this would be the stock ball joints..

I'm sure you can use any grease that has "suited for ball joint..." printed on the label. Here is an example:

http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...ic_Grease.aspx

Just like oils, there are synthetic greases and non-synthetic so check what the grease label states the grease is suited for.

Thanks I bought the Mobil One Synthetic, but I just need to know how much I need to put in... Stock is a TON.. so should I do the same amount or less?

Evo's don't have the grease nipple, but I suppose you should grease until it comes out.

BTW, I have never done it, just searched google for about 30secs to find answers...

G'day everyone,

Sorry it took us a little while to pipe in.

Boost3dxEvO, we don't assemble the ball joints in house so I can't really say what we use. But the guys in the tech centre recommend any good quality, high temperature wheel bearing grease. We don’t like mentioning brands but there are lots around and the other comments are probably on the money.

Actual replacement of the boot should also be quite straightforward as they’re same as OE dimensions. Hope that helps.

BTW, we’ve got a community page going on the site with a lot of pictures of customers cars, needless to say there are a HEAP of EVO’s. Would love to see even more http://www.whiteline.com.au/community.php?page=1

Cheers

From my experience, you should fill it up to the max to prevent premature wear on the joint...
