rear trailing arm ball joint question

I'm doing all the bushings in my evo and as i was using a stupid pickle fork i tore one of my dust boots on the ball joint. Can you replace the boot with maybe one of the front boots? Im replacing the front ones with whiteline kit.

Thanks

Bump for a good question. And don't use a pickle fork. It will destroy the ball joint, as you learned.

this part popped both them off in 10 seconds. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/OTC-6297/

Also for future reference to help others on the forum the part number for a rear trailing arm ball joint dust boot is mb808555 and
can be found at mitsubishiparts.net

That's basically the same tool the shop manual calls for. You can get it for wayyy cheaper at Harbor Freight.

i just swapped my rear trailing arms. to get the ball joint out, i loosened the nut, then grabbed a big 1/2" extension, and gave it a few wacks with the mallet. came right out.

lucky you man. mine wouldnt budge with pb blaster or a 10# sledge hammer. When it seperated with that special tool above it sounded like the control arm snapped in half. Mine were STUCK.

I also used the bash method. Undo the nut a bit but keep it threaded on a decent amount, put a board on it and whap it with a hammer. Came apart with a few hits.
