safe break in period for IX's
Waiting longer probably does help seat the rings better. It's very hard to break in a motor quickly on synthetic oil. All of the experts have stated this. 600 miles might be sufficient, but I went to 1,000 miles before seeing anything above 5K. If you want to pound on your car straight off of the lot, go ahead. And if you want to wait till 1,000 miles, that's fine too. There's nothing wrong with being cautious with your motor.
I tried drive like a granny for the first 500 miles but I swear I have one of those "fast" things talking to me. I've go 900+ on it now and it feels so proper and runs so nice. It feels faster than when I first got it and I swear it runs better.
Time for an oil change and the true fun begins.
I think it's just a matter of opinion in how to break in an engine truthfully. There's way to much he said she said type crap about the topic to justify any one method being correct.

Someone tell me what I should do if I'm gonna be driving my IX for 2500 miles very soon after I buy it!?!?!
What are my options??? I can try drive it around for about 2 weeks and get it up to 600 miles before I go on my road trip, but should i change the oil right before I leave? I don't want to get stuck while on the highway without a mitsu dealership around.
Also, are you supposed to change the oil before you start revving a bit higher? Or, do you rev a bit higher for a little and then change the oil???

Eggy, just drive it on your 2500 trip and enjoy it. For the first 600 miles keep it under 5,000 RPM, and try not to keep it at one engine speed for long periods of time. But do wind it up to 5k sometimes and let it get some boost on. After 600 miles, drive it however you want. You really don't need to worry about changing the oil until after your trip; it will be fine.
This is the way I have broken-in both of my EVOs.
-First 100 miles, little boosting, don't go above 4K-4.5K rpm, brake lightly
-Next 500 miles (600miles), boost normal, don't go above 5K rpm, brake normal.
-For the next 400miles, I go harder and harder on the car, so when I'm at about 1k miles, I'm basiclly treating it like a race car.
