I did this exact thing. It is very useful right now with the THOUSANDS of HUGE potholes on NJ roads. It gives me the ability to see far enough ahead on the highway to avoid them, and then I dial them down when I get on busy side streets.

 

wrong... all three with the headlights turned up is the best.

 

I don't think they're pointless. I lower mine down when I'm following a friend or when I'm in heavy traffic so I don't blind people.
