MR oil temp gauge not working

I just need to know where they pick up the oil temp singal from, on the motor.
I checked the gauge and its fine. so it must be the wiring or the sensor.

I even checked the factory service manual and it mentions nothing about the (3) gauges let alone the oil temp gauge.

Check out purplegodzilla's post. This is true for a IX MR anyway.

I believe it is located on the oil filter assembly. There is another wire going to the oil pan plug but I am not sure if that is the one.

What is starnge is that it does not work at all. My oil temp gauge failed simultaneouly with the Voltmeter gauge on my MR but it was because my ground was not properly installed well after I did some radio work.

I would removed the gauge panel and check the connections.

I got an addendum to my manual with my car that covers the 3 gauges on the MR. It says the temp reading is of the oil at the bottom of the oil pan, which is what leads me to the wire on the plug itself, but that's just an educated guess.

My VIII had the same problem. Not sure on your ride but on mine the wire that goes to the drain plug (which is the temp sender) was broken. If you follow the wire from the drain plug it will go past the filter and then just inside the right front wheel there is a small two plug connector. This is where the wires were broken and it was just from vibration.

It's kind of retarded since the factory install has the wire from the gauge zip tied to the brake line on the right front. This probably vibrates like hell and I'm sure it's what caused mine to break.

Just an FYI, Mitsu does not sell the sender and short wires as a separate part, you need to but the gauge and sender complete. I think it's like $238 for the whole deal. They told me the gauge is calibrated as a complete unit.

The wires in the sener are tiny, almost like single strand so if you tried to solder / repair it the resistance would be way off.

Hope this helps,
Bob

The oil temp sender is the oil drain plug on the oil pan underneath the car.

My gauge stopped working lastnight. I tapped it and it started working again.
