Most of the "pre-emptive" police actions are in response to the street racing scene in California. Every time we participate in a street race, we add another nail in the modification coffin. The police are responding to the public's call for the elimination of street racing. That is the 55 year old grandma who was run off the road avoiding a car doing 100 mph on a city street. It is the neighborhood complaining about the noise at midnight from squealing tires and loud exhaust. It is the dad whose wife and two kids were killed by an out of control racer.

We are responsible for creating the enforcement issues, not the police. We cannot participate and condone street racing, then complain when the police enforce the laws designed to curb it. You can't have it both ways anymore. Either stop supporting street racing, or resign yourself to the addition of floor mats and shift knobs as the only legal modifications. And what is happening in California could very well be a model for other states unless we stop irresponsible racing that results in death and injuries.

Cali sucks. Good thing Im not planning on moving there anytime soon. The only way to go fast there is to buy a very expensive car.

Unless you live in Cali this may not be a big deal. I believe that CARB rules require parts which may affect emissions to be certified. I know that other states are borrowing some of California’s smog regulations and matching their demands for cleaner burning cars and fuels but I don't think that similar mechanisms exist in the other 49 states. (if I’m wrong please let me know)

Make sure everything you put on a car in Cali has a CARB number.

Or it could come down to making sure the car remains somewhat stock looking:

> smaller tach, hidden shift light in the HVAC vent (does it really need to be the 8”?)
> get rid of the stickers
> flat black high temp paint over the exposed "aftermarket" exhaust
> factory heat shield back on the exhaust header
> reinstall factory timing gear cover
> powder coat or paint intake dark to disguise aftermarket appearance
> black CAI piping
> black hose on the breather, reposition filter below intake
> black adjustable fuel pressure regulator (as apposed to purple)
> place NOS system lower on the firewall, paint / anodize hoses and fittings black, hide bottle in spare compartment or get a pair of cheater bottles and place them in the doors etc, etc…

If you don’t draw attention to yourself, it’s not going to be a problem.

Now while I'm saying this I'm contemplating the purchase of a new Evo MR and seriously considering taking the wing off, anodizing the FMIC black and painting the Brembos black.

I dont understand why all the tuners and shops in Cali. dont protest against this.
Like organize a march or something cuz this is getting out of control. Like they say everything starts in the west coast them moves east. Well stop the plague before it goes to far!!!

Im sure people protest these type of things but if EVERYONE gets together on this im sure it will get some attention rather than a couple small groups fighting against crap like this.

I can understand that to avoid injury and to announce they are coming, thats right big tough Harley guy is the first one to squeel about car drivers ignoring them and not paying attention to motorcycles. What I dont get is why bikes and especially those misfiring POS Harleys have 0 emissions equiptment. That and the polution from big trucks make me think living by the rules is a damn joke.

Oh **** the rules in cali anyways. Thing is wait for 3f3f, its going to suck. I can imagine it, drifters on the freeway, roads, togue or w.e the **** it is when you go down hills.

I mean 50-75% roughly that everyone installs on their evo is used for off-road use. But who the hell cares if its illegal, people still do drugs its illegal but that **** will never go away just like modifying evos, imports, domestics, buses, minivans, or spaceships.

Stay safe everyone
