i test drove an evo 8 and it seems like the car doensnt fully spool till 4k!!, why soo high? and if u get full TBE would that reduce the lag? and what other mods would be needed to stay away from lag?

Must be something wrong with the car, mine has always begun building boost by 2500-3000, buy 4000 pek boost has already been reached. Drive another one.

 

my friend went for a ride in an EVO 9 and said that it kicks in hard after 4K, like u feel it push u back in the seat.
i dont know, it sound too high for full boost to kick in at 4K

from owning both you feel the engagement more in the viii than the ix the mivec makes it very smooth almost like a supercharger. and yes my viii always was spooled WAY before 4k. there must be something wrong with that one you drove

it has to be then, all it had done to it was a k&n drop in filter. since the sales man didnt know what was done to it.

Doesn't seem far off. When do you expect to see full boost? What gear were you in? Higher gears will spool earlier and hit full boost earlier, but lower gears will do it later. As you can see here, I start spooling earlier than 4k, but I don't really hit full boost until 3800 or so. Peak torque is around 3900-4000rpm, and I have no spool issues. In fact, my nasty torque comes on quite early. As you can see, I'm over 300wtq by 3300rpm.

 

It won't feel like a NA car...

You can't base spool on 1st gear...

 

If you can even watch your boost in first gear you need more mods. Try 3rd gear.

 

he probably had it in 5th doing 60+ then stomped on it!!!!
