I don't even worry about 4.6l Mustang GTs. As far as the term stock. It means exactly what it says. CAI, Muffler, etc and your no longer stock. Period. The only 12 second capable Stangs are the Cobra (03 model only) and Cobra-R... Bone stock nothing done. Otherwise... no way...not happening...Stock that is.
Well, some guys say that a big rear end gear is still stock (it's a Ford part, ain't it?)... and if you drop in GT40 heads, well... is still stock, hey I only took off the front sway bar... it's still stock though....

It's not meant to make u mad or to bait anyone.... The WRX will never equal an EVO or STi... It does not matter how many aftermarket parts you bolt on it or how fast you get the sucker to go... The EVO (and the STI if it ever gets here) are like the M3 or AMG Mercedes. These are full blown, all out, special made factory cars..... I'm sorry to bust your bubble, but what you have is a modified, fast WRX.... No offence, but that ain't no Evo (or STi either)

Thats right silverevo8, using your logic a modded Ferrari will never be a Geo Metro LSi. The LSi is a factory package, and could never be equaled by the Ferrari. You have to make up your mind what youre talking about. If youre debating the fact that the evo is factory performance vs a modded wrx, there is no debate, you are obviously correct, which is why its hard for some people to understand why youre arguing. If youre arguing that a modded wrx can never compete with an evo (handling, power, etc) then your argument is simply based on ignorance. Pick an argument and stick to it, don't waffel on your deffinitions.

Hi,

I'm not sure if he is, but I will.

Paul Hansen has pointed out that Japanese tuners don't even fool with WRX's when looking for cars to mod;they find used STI's to start with.

Paul has also written:

Actually, I'm pretty sure a standard Evo will feel faster than a WRX with "comparable" hp - peak hp numbers don't tell the whole story. The Evo has a rather good torque band from 3000rpm up in conjunction with rather low gearing. While some modded WRX's may be comparable, the majority won't be able to compete with the factory twin-scroll setup and it's low-end flexibility. This holds true for a modded WRX vs. the STi, which is why I don't hold with the "mod my WRX out to 300hp for less money" theory.

Modification can go quite far, but it's hard to beat a factory setup built by the people that, well, built the engine.

Cheers,

Paul Hansen

My point is that a modded WRX that can actually compete with the EVO or STI will be very rare. Have fun!

Speedlimit........

I think that trying to make a Geo Metro LSi out of a Ferrari would be pretty silly and ridiculous. What I say is that the EVO is a limited production, classic car. Try as you may you'll not make one of or a Lancer no more than you'll make an STi out of a WRX. You can modify a WRX untill hell freezes over and it will never have the same cache as a 356C Porsche. I don't care how fast you make it. Same with the EVO, you can mod a WRX until you are broke and spent more that the price of an EVO and you'll still have a Modified WRX. If that's what you want that's fine, you can have it, enjoy it and be happy with it, just don't think you have the same thing. Anyway, my WRX cost me $25K just for the record, the cost of bolt on parts to match the EVOs factory parts would run upwards of $5K and I'm just talking brakes and suspension (including all the trick cast aluminum bits). So now before adding labor you have as much money in the modified WRX and still you have no EVO.... What's the point? Hell, if that's what you want, just buy the EVO or the STi and save yourself a lot of hassle....

I am scanning my time slips tomarrow, I am almost certain I can get to 13.4 or faster. my 60ft times are bad I can shave point.2-.3 off just that alone. All you haters need a hug or somthing. I know what I can beat and what I can't. I also know what I did beat. Scc had a 13.3 time in the latest mag. That puts it right therre with most stock cars. If the sti is that much faster it is going to be a bad-***. I don't know why we can't all get along. Name calling is not nessicary. I stick with my statement though the sti will have its hands full.

I'll go out on a limb here and say...people who want a wrx maybe? You speak as though you assume that everyone WANTS an evo.

I'm glad you know what I was talking about I guess sometimes terminology does not mean the same to everybody. The reason I came up with that example is that I've a friend who got into fixing up his Mustang and he managed to get 285hp at the wheels with a head job he did himself (yes he even ground the valves) he also added headers, fuelpump and up-graded ignition, he also ported and poilished the intake.. anyway, his car is pretty strong and yet he says that so and so is running 12s all day long with a stock Mustang...?? of course, then the truth comes out...there is stock and there is stock
Anyway my EVO is still stock. No, really, like it came out of the showroom floor plus some tear and wear. I'll be going to the dragstrip one of these days and see what I can get out of it. I think I will manage to get 13s if nothing else because of the HP and AWD... we'll see..........

I don't know if you know any of the track crowd.. but get to know some of them and you will find out that 13s is a very respectible number for a daily driven street car. Hell the guy that changed out my rearend was even impressed by my stock numbers.. let alone moded. When it comes down to it ..its all in fun. I love the track. Meeting new people, seeing what different cars run and how they respond to different mods, etc. I hope to see an Evo at the track this spring.

I read that in one of the Auto rags too, but I've also read from other publications as well as from the dealers that the car is going to be a limited edition of some 6000 to 9000 units (dependimng who you ask) for 2003.
I suppose the STi will also be produced in limited numbers too, but I'm not sure....Actually, if you wanna know the truth, I think that the EVO and STI will be self limiting in sales. Lets face it, these cars have limited appeal. I guarantee you that if a regular joe or jane or their parents, family etc, manage to cop a test drive in an EVO, they'll probably not like it I'm telling you, this EVO is more like a race car than any family or let alone luxury sedan.... Most folks with $30K to burn will prolly choose another car....

I've tried my best to clean up this thread.

Guys, keep it on topic here.

Don't flame or bait other users.

If someone flames you, don't respond. Report the post and let the mods clean it up.

I've deleted all the flaming sub-threads,, even if they weren't directly out of line. Let's get over it and get on with life.
