Every new EVO owner should ask themselves this question?
why are all of you guys jumping on this guy so hard, he does have a point, though he might not have stated it so tactfully. the evo is an awsome car in stock form. can it be better? of course it can but better comes with alot of problems. my car is not stock and some times i wish it was and yet other times i am happy with it modded. lets be real here though, if i am to install an ems should i expect the car to drive normal or what any one would consider normal? hell no. as i have said my car is modded and i do get really tired of a check engine light for god knows what next, but i deal with it, fix the problem, and move on. i guse you could say its like the cost of doing buisness and as others have said that was also my intention when i bought the car.
that being said and this is going to sound harsh to some, most people should not mod thier evo. the evolution was made to be a solid little performance car that has good drivability, good reliability, and good practicality. it was not made to be a ferrari slayer even though with enough tinkering it can be. this is a 30k+ car we are dealing with, you should treat it as such. if you leave it stock and do the matanance it will give you years of trouble free service. if you dont know how the electronics, internal combustion engine, turbo charger, and driveline work you should probably leave it stock, or have really deep pockets. thats just the cold hard truth.
i can uderstand threads about a problem and trying to fix it. i hate threads crying about a blown motor, gear box, t case, fried electronics, and diffs complaining about mitsu and thier crappy quality after they have modded the crap out of the car. we drive production cars designed to handle about 300hp every day, not hand made race cars that still brake every third pass down the track.
your point is valad, kudos to you for keeping it stock. god knows your car will be worth alot more than ours in 3 years.
to the rest of you, flame away. you can agree or disagree, lets just keep the name calling to a minimum

he kind of stated something misleading tho... keeping your evo stock doesn't retain any part of your warantee unless the dealer gives it to you.... a shady dealer is a shady dealer... has nothing to do with being stock.
About this garage vendor crap, these guys arn't garage vendors, they work with mitsu or they get documentions, example, mitsu gave mullrizer thier ralliart eclipse so they could do some work with the suspension setup, and i can name so many more things
majority of dealerships will jump on the chance to void the warranty. and as i said before who the hell buys this car to keep it stock???? i have a friend on here his screename is RmR i believe. when he first got the car only thing he said is its staying stock, a month later his ecu gets reflashed, month later works filter, and now he continues to mod. anyone who buys this car to keep it stock and just drive is definetly driving the wrong car. this is not a just drive car, i think majority of us have some goal to reach in the power catergory. and those who dont maybe you should switch cars, and get an STI because whenever i see an STI its usually an older gentlemen driving around in a stock one in my area. maybe that car is more for your taste. but the evo, HA good luck keeping it stock. the modding bug will strike you sooner or later.

anyways the point of modding your lancer evolution is basicly it's name, its a evolution, it keeps evolving into a faster car

I just find this thread funny because it reminds me of a friend of mine who was the type of person who feels their opinions are 100% correct and should be written in stone. He was telling me how he felt my stereo was a waste, because you didn't need to have heavy base, etc. etc. to enjoy the music, and he felt playing the music loud was stupid and just for attention. I only had a sub, a set of comps in the front, a deck and an amp, yet he felt this was too excessive.
The moral of the story is, this kind of ignorant attitude, where you are not able to see the light, and prefer to just lie to yourself, will get you absolutely no where. It's funny about my buddy too because for someone who felt he knew just about everything, he didn't manage to realize that his girlfriend was cheating on him for about half a year with some greaseball lol... I guess karma rewards ignorance too.

i dont understand how this is such a big debate, its PERSONAL preference.
If the guy doesnt want to mod a car fine, maybe a 13 second car with almost 300hp and killer engine is perfect for this guy.
I think that he was trying to get across is that this is a hell of a car stock, with the best warrenty out their, now i know how people like to mod cars, as do i, its a hobby/lifestyle i guess, and i would have no problem seeing stock evo's driving around wouldnt bother me none.

Here is something to think about. If the Mitsu engineers where so good and the quality of their parts was that great we wouldnt need warranties in the first place because nothing would ever break. Guess what Brembo Momo Recaro Enkei are all after market companies. So i guess you better pull that **** off your car and get some Mitsubishi designed Calipers seats etc because they would obvoiusly be better quality...

Leave the car stock, enjoy the best warranty in the world, and don’t destroy the car by bolting some garage vendor parts on it.
Think about it this way.....
Are garage vendors smarter that 100 Mitsubishi engineers?
Most of these "garage vendors" never finished High School, never mind a Engineering school. Who would you trust more?
Garage vendors act on your driving/ego emotion to sell you uncertified and un-engineered parts to make MONEY. Will they fix your car if it BLOWS up...... NO!!!
Will Mitsubishi fix your car if it blows up...YES!!!(provided you dont mod it).
Its funny...most vendors after their parts cause a engine/drivetrain failure, will try to blame mitsubishi for it and demand warranty repair....!! If I was Mitsubishi, I would laugh in their faces....The sad part is that it is the customer that gets really screwed in this situation.....Don't become one...
All modifications will shorten the lifespan of your car, no matter what "Vendors" tell you. This awesome car was made for performance and longevity from the factory by qualified engineers who built the car with certain parameters in mind.
There is a high price to pay when you modify, if you are willing to pay it to get the
"extra power" or whatever the garage vendors promise you , go for it.
Enjoy the car for what it is.......
If you truly love your car, leave it stock........

Ok Bill Gates and Einstein never went to college. What is your point. Are you trying to say that if you dont have a college degree then products you make/invent are crap? It is all about who you buy from. If you want to leave it stock then so be it.
It's my opinion that you are missing out on making a great car even better. If done right you can have you cake and eat it too with the evo (stock driveability and extra power). I actually noticed something today that should have been painfully obvious to me but I just never thought about it.
My car is bone stock now and I was following two mildly modded evos to the track. I had to beat the snot out of my car just to keep up, and just from listening to the evos in front of me they were barely revving thier motors to accomplish the same speed. It's not like we were racing on the street or anything like that, just normal driving from light to light. I'd prefer to have the extra power so I don't have to rev my motor so much.

Oh and one more thing, I think this thread is garbage and I'm sick of people making threads trying to start trouble. There are much better ways of getting noticed if that's what you're after, and this isn't one of them. Why not take the high road, and stick to the pros of staying stock. There's no need to put down all vendors as a whole, stereotypes never tell the whole story.
