Does this mean that the very large crash bar is completely removed with no protection at all besides the reinforcement bar ?

That is sooo not a crash bar! Its just a bumper cover support. I mean, don't get me wrong... If you have the jdm bumper you should get this part to help hold the bumper up. As far as crash protection...... forget it!

Yes, if you read the install thread I posted you will see that the crash beam must be removed.

Yes, the USDM one will fit on the IX bumper and from what I can tell you need to use it because it has the mounting holes for the liscense plate.

I'll try to make it simple and clear.

-Bumper re-enforment bar and Crash beam is two different thing.
- All Bumpers (JDM and USDM) have Bumper re-enforcement bar on to keep the bumper from sagging, distoration and such. Chech your stock USDM one its on there. The different between the usdm and jdm bumper re-enforcement bar is the location of the licence plate bracket. I have both, the one shown on the first page of this thread and my stock usdm one.
-JDM rear bumper= no rear crash beam unless you custom make one.

Isnt it possible for someone to fab up a smaller crash bar that could fit behind the IX bumper and be as effective? I just cant believe nothing at all can be done?...I like those IX rears but I wont remove my crash beam for it because I would be to worried that insurance would screw me over for it, which woul be my fault anyway.....Why couldnt mitsu just mold the JDM IX to fit the USDM also when the IX went into production, really irritating...

so far i have installed 2 jdm rears with the USDM bumper support. My question is can you drill holes in the jdm support for our license plate so the lights fit where they are supposed to the usdm one is a pain in the @ss to make the license plate look good......

Because it saved them money. So is the conclusion that JDM cars have *NO* crashbeam whatsoever? I find that hard to believe.

This is driving me crazy!

If anyone can pls clarify the availability of a UK crash beam...i know the ppl at orbitz was trying to find out - but this has been a debate that's been discussed over and over again - but hasn't been resolved...if a vendor would be able to fabricate a safe, good fitting crash beam for the evo IX bumpers it would be great for both us as well as them - demand is there just no product
