Problems selling the EVO
Problems selling the EVO
I was wondering if anybody else on here has had alot of trouble selling their EVO's. I really havent pushed it locally, but mine has been on autotrader, ebay, evom.net,and modifiedcartrader.com, and it hasnt sold. I personally dont think my asking price is too high, and lots of people have "said" they wanted it, but no luck yet.........is there anything you guys that are selling your EVO's are doing to aid selling? Thanks.
take off the body kit, and get it as close to stock looking as you can. You might have better luck with it then. People want to do what they want with it and may not be interested in what you think looks good. It's probably ok to leave the power mods on there unless someone doesn't want them.
have you tried local classified? or maybe it's b/c not many ppl in your area wants the car...you also have to remember that many people (including myself) distrust autoshopping on the net...*shrug*
gl with it tho

As someone who shopped used Evos for months, I have to +1 Event-Horizon's comments: The moment I saw a body kit, I went on to the next car.
I have no desire to inherit a car that may have been monkeyed with, especially when it's something as personal, and potentially crappy, as aftermarket body parts. Just MHO.
Same with the mods: They suggest the prior owner's been abusing the car, and they are almost certainly going to fail the first smog inspection in some states, e.g., California.
If it were my car, I'd put it back to stock visually, and remove or at least downplay the mods as much as possible; maybe not even mention them. Just my opinion.
BTW, I finally gave up finding a nice used one and bought new.

I agree. I am in the market for one, but everyone I look at, I look at the person and the car, then i'm scared the car's been messed with so I dont get it... I must've looked at 4 Evos already in the past couple weeks. In the end, I'm most likely going to be buy a new Evo9 RS.

Try one of those websites that specializes in modified cars. I'll bet you'll have more luck there. I mean basically your selling a car for 20 grand with no warranty (not that there was much of one to begin with.)

you only have 1 power mods (~+15-30 whp). and it would be stupid to take off the flash, clutch, and studs. with all of the rod failures occuring and the recomendations floating around on fp and studs, i would say your engine is more reliable then a stock evo. i doubt potential evo owners have done enough research to know this though. i'm sure the body work is turning people away. not too many evo owners get kits, and they are a personal preference anyway. i would remove the kit. i also would not list your mods. no one needs to know there is a boost gauge and other little knick knacks. people see mods and think you have included them in your selling price, abused your car, or had more mods and took some off. i also would sell (not for money) your mods to the potential buyer. say things like "evos have weak clutches so i put a stronger one in there." or "only one mod increased performance and it caused my evo to get better gas mileage." "my mods are for saftey" (APRs). things that will dispel the notion you abused this car.
$20K is right on par with kbb's private party value. However, the mods is what makes it hard to sell. Not really the go fast stuff, but the asthetic things. I had the hardest time selling my IS300 because of the body kit. Had several people that would have bought it if I had the stock parts to put back on. Like several people said already: take the kit off and make it look as stock as possible...
i saw that car on ebay it looked nice but i wouldnt ever by a car that doesnt have orginal paint when im spending 20 grand most those body kit jobs are a sign that the car was butchered im not saying yours is but when i see that type of stuff it is like a red flag and i stay away
like other people said im in the market for an evo i thought urs was nice and i liked the color and motor mods but the body kit made me stay away
