okay here's my 2cents. i have had to replace my transfer case (i have an 04). i do not beat on teh car hard at all. have only launched the car a total of 3 times.. and no, not dropping the clutch.. slipping it from 4500 rpms. Anyway, if you are running high power.. for example a gt30 turbo and a race gas map.. you will probably have issuses with the t-case. You see, it is the spider gears that really are the weak point in the transfer case. You have a IX so, there is a front LSD. Unless you're doing crazy things with your car.. the tcase shouldn't be something to worry about FOR YOU (o3 o4 owners, that's a different story).

I have an 03 and had no problem with my tc until having the 30,000 mile driveline service. 1,000 miles later the tc was shot so they replaced it. 600 miles later, it starter to whine. I drained the lube out and it was as thin as motor oil. The dealer had put in the wrong lube and killed it.
Be very careful about who you let work on your EVO.
