I wouldn't, then again I am not an expert on tuning. I couldn't tell you if it would be bad for the car or not. I just believe in having the proper tuning to match your mods so you can get the most of them.

You will be fine for a little while just let your ECU learn it, and semi expect fuel cut if you run it all the way up to 7K. I installed my 272's and had no problem at all. Remember the ECU does learn so you will be fine.

He intends to only put in the HKS 272 exhaust cam which fits the 9's.

my car ran fine with cams in and no retune...granted it didn't run as well as it did after the retune (very rich), but it wasn't unsafe. I was untuned for about 1.5 months.

I'm not 100% sure but 272's may make your car run a lot leaner than you would like.

Putting in a set of cams (in theory) should not interfere with your A/F ratio. What does a bigger set of cams do? Allows more air to flow through into the head due to a change in lobe duration and lift. Since the Evo (like most modern cars) has a MAF sensor that calculates the flow of air into the engine, the ECU should account for the extra air and add more fuel accordingly. I suppose that overlap might allow some air to escape the combustion chambers, but in this case that would only make the car run rich, which is not a bad thing (won't be as powerful as it could be however).

Your idle will be fine because the intake cam isnt messed with.
