Cut Nose....
Cut Nose....
I was wondering cause i searched and i didnt know exactly what to type...butt i waanted to know how you removed the section where the emblem is on the front bumper and made it look all empty and clean...? is it a a new bumper orr did you custom do it, cause i want to do it but i cant seem to figure out how....let me know how you did it if you do...
Im guessisng you have a IX (Its molded in on an VIII). I have not had the opportunity to work on one yet but my guess is that you would take the bumper off and get it off from the back.
I have an 05 GG MR and I removed the emblem and then drilled holes in the corners and middle of the star recess that was in the cover. This made it possible to then slide a hand held (single grip) fine tooth hack saw blade in and carefully cut along the line of the recess as a guide. I then used a very fine file to smooth out the remaining cut line and it came out perfect. Since my car is Graphite Grey and the natural color of the bumper cover is light black I did not even have to paint it. This mod will let more air to the radiator. I do alot of track day's and time trials so I also cut out the front US bumper in front of the intercooler and left the sides of it so the cover is still firmly bolted on and you still have two push bars if you bump into another car. This really helps get more air to the intercooler on hot day's. Just cutting out the middle section removed 10 lbs from the nose of the car.
I removed it from the car and placed it in a horizontal bandsaw to get a clean cut.
You could probably use a chop saw as well. The bumper is very thick and would be dificult to cut by a hand hack saw. Just file smooth after and paint Gloss black the two outer halves and bolt back on. I am going to add a tow hook from the drivers side mount and just slit the bumper cover so it will slide through also for the track as it is very difficult to access the stock front tow hook in a hurry let alone have a fair lead for towing the car with it. The stock hook is only good for a downward pull angle.
I hope this helps out some people that don't mind doing some hands on modifications.
