Dumb Question - Heading to the track
This may sound dumb but I thought I would ask just to make sure I don't blow anything up...
I'm heading to the track on the 15th for the first time and I'm going to be competing against my friends C5 Vette. He was out at the track today and said he couldn't get any traction. His best time was a 13.0 @113mph. He's got some bolt on stuff and a custom tune...
I know I'm not going to hit 113 with my mods but my question is this... I was customed tuned by Al at 22psi. Would it be alright to throw some race gas in there and turn the boost up to 24 or 25psi? To run this amount of boost, would I need to have a bigger % of race gas vs. 93pump or all race gas? I'm new to this and don't want to blow anything up.
Current Mods:
2003 EVO
BR Stage 3 (All the goodies)
264/264
Headstuds
Upgrade Fuel pump
Custom Tuned @22psi
BR MD 263whp/259tq
Thanks for your input!

I would say don't do it if you are unsure. If he was running 13.0 with no traction I would say go out practice your launches and just have some fun. I take it there is nothing but some pride on the line here.
you can put in the race gas and leave the boost alone....that will help the care run smoother and better....thats what i did for my run... esp since ur beating on the car for a night
Mike(Never2old32),
I have done it both ways with great results. I typically gain about 2MPH and .2sec when I add 3 gallons of 100 or 101 to my car.
The reason why I was telling you that I have done it both ways is because I ran a little bit of race gas without touching the MBC then increasing the boost.
I don't think it would hurt much at all. Try increasing the boost in small increments. Observe your boost gauge.
Just a couple of tips for the track:
Removed floor mats and spare tire
Fold the mirrors in
Take the car with low gas
gradually decrease tire pressure to achieve maximum traction
Good luck!! and by the way, it was not a dumb question.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Good points Carlos! Those things will save some weight and decrease wind resistance. I think I'll throw in some race gas to be cautious, but not turn up the boost.
Don't do that, man, that's a waste of money. You're already tuned with a safety margin included. Go out there and practice your launches/shifting. AFter you get the hang of it, toss in a few gallons of race gas (unleaded preferably), then turn up the boost 2-3psi. You WILL go faster, and it will not be unsafe.

Warrtalon,
When you say "don't do that", are you referring to putting in only race gas? I think that's what you meant after I read "AFter you get the hang of it, toss in a few gallons of race gas (unleaded preferably), then turn up the boost 2-3psi".
If this is the case, will do! Thanks for you input!

I was responding to your last post. Do not add race gas and leave the boost the same. That only helps if your tune is on the ragged edge and is already causing timing to be pulled. Dynoflash doesn't tune that way. It doesn't mean your car isn't in that situation, but it wouldn't be likely. Just add the race gas AFTER LEARNING TO LAUNCH/DRIVE, then turn up the boost accordingly.
