Pedal Stopper

I noticed that behind the gas pedal is a round black stopper that can be screwed on and off, but I'm not sure if it comes all the way off. It was loose when I noticed it so I tightened it back on, but can it come off so the pedal, if pushed hard, can hit the floor? Or is it there for that reason, to stop it..I know, stupid question..but thanks

not sure if this aplies to evos but on some cars if you remove it you run the chance of streching the throttle cable or even having it snap. again, not 100% on this

A similar stop was present on 1995 Eclipses. It was eliminated in 1996+ cars. It was determined that the stop prevented the throttle from opening completely.

Here is how you can test it. Have someone sit in the car and press the throttle to the floor. Then go out under the hood and try to push the throttle open even more. If it moves, then I'd yank that stop. If it does not move, leave it in.

Lots of cars have these. All of my Porsches and my BMW have had them. It's purpose is like what dartman said. It should be adjusted to allow WOT without going beyond. Don't know if the adjustment really matters that much now days or if its just to give you a good pedal to the floor feeling instead of it just mashing all the way into the carpet.

It was there so that before you reach your break-in period you don't step your pedal down to the mat and save the engine

If you couldn't figure that out, you deserve what happens to you.

Like I said, test it to see if it is preventing you from going full throttle. I wouldn't put it past Mitsu.
