If I was a short midget (I am 6'3" - maybe i would think differently - but for anyone over 6' the evo is the best answer)

The STI is a great car and my new best motoring video shows the jdm 2.0 l version with twin scroll beating the evo vii at time attack - - the old sti was a looser to the evo

Its going to be a toss up - they are both sweet cars - but teh handling of the evo and breaking are superior to the suby IMHO
BGA youve never had an STi and you certainly have never had a MY04 STi so I fail to see how you can possibly comment on Shiv's post.

Yeah one of the best reasons for considering an evo for the time being is to distinguish from the WRX....and the Neon too since the old WRX looks kinda like a Neon.
Don't buy the reasoning on the 2 liter vs. 2.5 though.
I predict you will see 350+ horsepower stage 1 moded STI's very quickly, the quickest of which will probably be doing sub 4 0-60's.
Watch out.

I had an entire C spec STI which was cut in half and I took all the pieces and put them on my WRX - engine , trans, 6 spd , rear suspension , ecu etc etc - - So this is a real sore spot with the Subaristas that they think i never had an STI

In fact my STI had over 412 wheel HP so I'd say it was a bit more than a STI

Whatever - who cares - these cry babys are mostly arm chair quarter backs who never did anything so Claudius just ignore them - unlike you they are not testing any stroker kits

The 6 spd is hardly a drag racers' dream - I had over 500 hp pumping on mine and could only get a 11.88 at 124 mph in the 1.4 - - - with the evo 5 speed I should be in the low 10's with the same power - - suby 6 spdeed has too many shifts

Thanks

here is a link to the video...

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...=sti+and+video

great video. what i got out of the video is that these cars are very similar. they drive very differently, but when driven 10/10ths by good drivers, the margin of victory for either car is very small. i just need to decide which one to get.

alfried

you pieced together an STi replica. i respect you for that. but trying to come off that is an STi is silly. i think that is why so many people get upset. there is much more to an STi than the parts you discussed. i do respect all the work you have done in the suby world. not trying to dis.

If you're planning on trapping faster than about 126, you'll have to be in 5th gear with the Evo. In 5th gear in a US STi (taller than the JDM one you had) you'll max out at ~ 141. Neither one is set up for dragging from a gearing perspective.

Shiv,

Thanks for your insights. I was on the short list for an STi but got tired of waiting. An unexpected Apex Silver A00 EVO popped up at a local Carmax Mitsu dealership for $200.00 under MSRP and I couldn't resist. Called at 9AM...drove away at noon. No waiting, no list, no hassle. Regardless of what the STi ends up bringing to the table I am very pleased with the EVO. 93/94 octane makes a significant difference as your testing has revealed. The car would fall off sharply above 5k on 91. 93/94 and it continues to pull in a linear fashion all the way to red line. Minor mods will add just enough wheel HP to keep it enjoyable for a long time. I hope the STi owners are as satisfied with their selection as I am with my EVO.

Shiv - any idea when we can expect more Evo info on your site?

also, anyone else weigh their evo yet? on this thread Martin from AMS says that their Evo is probably closer to 3100/3150 https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ghlight=weight

Well, with the kind of power you're talking about you need different gearing altogether, maybe even an auto like this....

Wow - that sucks - that very wierd - is that beacuse they are sticking with the pre cat ? If you go to AVO turbo world 's web site they have pictures of the twin scroll set up there also in the new best motoring video they show it - it looks great

Oh and yeah - I had a pieced together STI car - so what? At least i got an idea of how they drive at least a year before the rest of you US guys !

2.5 liter doesn't need twin scroll to create lowdown torque. The twin scroll is also said to kill the subies trademark boxer exhaust sound.
