EVO weight loss results

Hi guys,

I kept on hear rumors that the removal of the front and rear bumper reinforcement bars was worth a big 100+lb weight reduction. Eager to lighten our shop car, I spent yesterday afternoon stripping our car of these frilly features Here's what we saw...

Rear bumper beam: 17lb
Rront bumper beam: 13lbs

Disgusted with only a 30lb loss, I removed the rear wiper assembly. The results:

Rear wiper w/ motor: 3lbs

Okay, so now we have a 33lb lighter EVO with a perpetually fogged rear window and zero crash protection. Awesome!

Cheers,
Shiv

I can hear Claudius saying "I told you so."
He has been saying all along that the extra weight is due to a stiffer chasis, and not US stuff.

Since it requires a hole in the rear glass, I would say yes.

I agree. Very humorous post.

Shiv, do you feel that you wasted your time, then? I dont think 33lbs would be worth it, especially if you are sacrificing the crash-protection of the car.

cheers??must say you always seem so negative about the evo(dont take it personal im just defending a car that seems brilliant for the money), if you want to talk about weight savings just read about the semi-recent article in SCC or turbo where they ended up cutting offf the roof for the lowest possible et..i too would like to know where the difference in weight comes from between the jdm and usdm model, but, i know for sure that it has nothing to do with the rear wiper...
PS. in finland they would probably want you to change your last name if you removed the rear wiper rules..subies are too soft to hang.

Hey Shiv, what do you have to say about all these folks running 13.6-13.7@ 100+ mph in the quarter (w/ room for improvement)? Doesn't that sound ~290HP or so just comparing w/ your various WRX packages' dragstrip results? Granted they are on 93 octane... Bit off topic but wanted to make sure you see this.
