Imported EVO's

I was curious as to what route to take if someone were to want an EVO I,II,III,IV,V... Is there a way to buy one that is already in the United States? Are the ropes to get one here the same as trying to bring an R32,R33 or R34 Skyline in? I was thinking that if someone has already done it, which I am sure they have and they decided they wanted to sell the car then anyone could buy it but how would you be able to finance/register and insure an older Evolution? I always figured you could have an appraiser take a look at the prospective Evolution, authenticate it and slap a value on it, take it to a bank or credit union and finance it with proof of value from a registered appraiser due to it not being listed in KBB/NADA. I heard to register Skylines, you need 13 numbers and the Japanese registrations have dashes and what not so it's as simple as replacing the dashes with zeros. Now insurance I don't know about. Has anyone looked into this? I know that if the car is a certain age it needs nothing besides the cost of the car and shipping costs to bring her here and legally drive it, so I heard. 15 years? 20 years? Are they even reliable cars?

The VIII and IX are better cars anyway. Why do you think they call it an "Evolution"? All that classic car stuff is BS. New cars perform better, last longer and you can just go in and buy one. I understand the mystique of something you can't have, but in the end, it ain't worth it.

buy a new evo, buy an older evo that you want( I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII) register and insure your new and legal evo(VIII, IX), swap all plates and badges from the two vehicles. park the legal evo in a barn. take your 10 year old evo VIII out for a drive and enjoy!

if you get pulled over, you have all the paper work for a fully street legal evo. there is no way of the po-po finding out that your evo VIII IS actually an evo VI. unless he imppounds it and do a full investigation.
