JDM Evo's in the us

A new thread on this topic is proabably like beating a dead horse but I figured i could share some information and maybe get some feeback. Basically to end the argument you CAN import a JDM evo 7 & 8. The reason for this is because all evo 7's and the JDM and USDM evo 8's are all of the CT9A chassis line. And anyone who knows some of the little loopholes in the NHSTA know that any car that has a us counterpart with the same chassis can be made to match the US version. Now comes the fun part, this is how motor-ex works too incase anyone was wondering. The company that you must go through to get an evo7 in the states is in fact Evolution imports, just like motorex is the skyline go to guys. Guess what tho, neither company legalizes the car, there is another company kept in the background that actually does the work on both cars, they are in california. Unfortunatly the company that does the work will not take cars straight from the average joe, evo's gotta come from evolution imports, and skylines have to come from motorex. This isn't for any reason special except this company does not want to spend an arm and a leg on liability insurance to protect themselfs for when some ghoomba kills himself in his skyline or evo. Evolution imports and Motorex come in at this point, the outragous fees on the skyline are because MotorEx pays alot in their liablility insurance, and Mr. Hero the owner of motor ex is a dick head and is aware of his total monopoly. The guys at Evolution imports however only charge about 8.5k for the actual legalization process unfortuatly tho, any car sent to the company in cali to get the work done must be made LHD(the car must be exactly like the us one remember) and that process will add another 3.5k to the bill. This is still about 15,000 dollars less than it costs to bring in a 96 and newer skyline. And you can get a used evo7 GSR out of japan and to certain areas of the us for about 1.8million yen.

If there is any kind of rebuttle to my short book here post a reply, but i don't want an evo vs skyline flame war. Thanks

Rebuttal? Please show proof of just 1 person who is legally driving an Evo 7, imported by EI, in the US. Last I heard, MMCA put a damper on EI's proposal.

In reply to the second post, I would love to show some pics of a evo 7 converted in the us, however any pics i get are gunna be from the internet since i live in a town called Niceville, and the mitsu dealership still has both of their evo 8's still, theese are the first two and probably last two that they will get. This is mainly cus most the people here are military or are too old to know what an evo is, that and all of em want the damn Rx-8 i think the mazda dealership here has sold 3 automatic Rx-8's for every standard...

I don't think anyone here will argue with the fact that given enough money an Evo VII can be physically brought up to Evo VIII specs. but it is not just a matter of swapping JDM parts off the VII in favor of US Spec parts from an Evo VIII. For instance, the bumper beams under the bumper cover of a US Evo VIII will never fit under the Evo VII's bumper cover. The US Evo VIII's emissions system can't just be plugged into the Japanese Evo VII's engine system without removing or relocating some of the VII's active handling systems.

But in the end it is the NHTSA who ultimately decides if it is legal for that car (in modified form) to be legally registered and driven on the streets of our country. And that is what's keeping Evo VII's off our roads. And that is what will keep 100% legally registered and insured Evo VII's off our roads....Well, until EI decides to crash some cars, or the importation '25 year rule' is reached.

Actually there are several companies who will do the conversion for you. They are registered import conversion companies with the NHTSA. There's a list of them on their website, though many are now defunct. THEY are the ones who say, "OK, this car is certified Mr. NHTSA and Mr. EPA."

The only nice thing about having a car here with the same chassis code is not having to go through crash testing and wasting 2-3 copies of the very car you are trying to buy.

That is only partially true, yes any registered import company can convert a car for you, however with most Ri's they had to modify the car and re-crash it and have it pass the crash tests to prove that it does in fact meet the standards. Now the modification done to the vehicle to make it pass is property of that particular Ri.

Geno, Geno, Geno.

Since you only registered on EvolutionM today and this was your first post, you probably don't know how to use that button above that looks like this:

Here's some of what you might find
A Message to All EI Customers
Evolution Imports Selling Used Cars
Evolution Imports - Status
Evo VIII NHTSA Import Petition Announced
importing a JDM evo 8
Evo VII NHTSA Import Petition Announced
The Evolution of Evolution Imports

Pretty much everything you've written in this thread is wrong. Read through those threads I listed and then see whether you want to continue this thread.

What's the point of this post?
Mostly everyone here knows about Evolution Imports and NOT to send them any money waiting for those EVO 7's
Alot of folks here are still waiting to get theirs after forking over $30,000 1-2 years ago

Geno....The members of this site have a strong idea regarding the number of EI Evos's on the street....it's a one digit number....greater than -1.....less than 1.

If you were really looking for info regarding EI, I would suggest that next time you ask a direct question.
