importing a JDM evo 8

Hey guys, i bet u have all heard of evolution imports. Well i'm buying a evo, but i don't know if i want to spend the extra money to buy it from evolution imports for a JDM evo. Also i'm not to sure on what kind of a rep the company has, i mean i saw a brand evo VII on ebay that they are selling, that is in the country and LEFT HAND DRIVE. I read a thread on here that they are having problems but it dosen't seem like it. anyway, i just want to know if it is a good idea to go through evolution imports?, and if anyone has gotten a car through them, how much time did it take and were there any problems? Also do u guys think it's worth the money to get the JDM evo, i mean it's like 38K.
It's nice that i have this option but i just want to make sure that i won't get screwed over, by paying for a loan and not getting my car until like a year later. Also the evolution imports website says, that the JDM evo has 320 hp and 300 lbs of torque, is this correct?, i know the hp limit in japan has been removedm but if someone can verify this, it would be nice.

referances

the evo VII on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=43919

also, on a side note, other then the ACD, AYC, recaro, narrow seats, are there any other differences in the JSM and USDM evo's

My sis got a New STi, so i wanted surprise her by, getting a JDM evo, but i just want to make sure that there aren't going to be problems later, also feel free to tell me why this would/ would not be a wise option, ie warrenty, service, and so on.
Thanks

IMHO, don't waste your time and $$$...just get a USDM Evo VIII at your local Mitsubishi dealer...320+ HP is just a downpipe and exhaust away...plus, you get a WARRANTY...and all for far less than importing a JDM Evo VIII...

Yeah honestly unless you're Captain Autocross or Commander Rally, you don't need the AYC or ACD anyway, so why bother? Spend less than $2k on intake and exhaust mods to get yourself to the same level of hp and then the only difference is really the seats and perhaps the front-end design a little?

Not worth it. The whole point of bringing the Evo here is so you DONT have to import one.

If you want to be a little patient, wait a couple weeks see what is the actual status of the EI situation and their Evo 8's. But keep in mind that there was a recall for the six speed!!

evo'skickass, I see this was your very first post here. Welcome. My posts in this forum have been primarily on the issues of grey-market Evo imports and the company Evolution Imports (subject of my very first post). Click on my name on the left and then click on "Search for all posts by this user."

Also....look at how poorly their auctions have been doing....

hopefully that link will work....

http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...sort=3&rows=25

if not....his highest Evo VII went to $20,200......which is probably about right for a 2 year old car....

good point

good point, i diden't really look at that, there was an jdm evo for sale (right hand drive still) by EI, but at that point i was gonna buy a 350Z, but then i realized how unpractical that car is, anyway, thanks to all the guys for there input.

also, I don't think the evo VII is used,

also, can a JDM EVO be serviced in US, say something wit the ACD, goes wrong, will dealerships here be able to fix it, or even warrent it, or will it be on a boat back to Japan

There would be no warrenty that could be used at any US mitsu. dealerships and i would recommend not taking it to them in the first place if you have problems with the AYC or ACD. I have had bad luck with dealreships and trany issues, i bet a good evo tuner would me more than happy to help you out with that.

Don't waste your time, the car probably will NEVER be legal. AYC and ACD are for wimps
