importing a JDM evo 8
I am so sick and freakin tired of people on this board who have never driven a jdm evo commenting on AYC/ACD. Anyone who calls the Active Center Diff a driving aid is in need of some enlightenment. Back to the Topic... why on earth would someone in the US want to import a jdm evo? - why undergo the hassle? why forgo the warranty??

that'sa true, i don't really need the AYC, i forgot about the 6-speed, but it's not too important to untilze the evo powerband
I'm leaning towards getting a evo from here in the states and then taking it over to vishnu performance systems. Have them work wit it,
just wondering, should i wait until break in period to start mods??
and what color will the white enkei rims look best wit, along wit the veil side body kit.

The US Mitsu dealership network is not prepared to deal with AYC or ACD system repair maintenance of the JDM Evo. And even if they could work on it, they probably would choose not to because the car is not a US spec vehicle.

GO WRC4ever and JEMM hehe.. I give suzuki there five stars for his obvious ignorance. But coming back to the issue, just buy a USDM evo and save all the hassle and headaches. AYC and ACD are not extra airbags. They need substantial techinical training and experience to deal with. Even changing the oil for the AYC requires special tools which I doubt your dealerships will have. And judging by what I have read mostly so far, most of you in the US seek big horsepower. The ACD and AYC drivetrains are very strong units, but when you start making 500whp, something along the drivetrain is bound to give....as mentioned before, the substantial advantage for AYC can only be experienced throughly at the track. But I have heard people saying that AYC has saved their "lives" more than once.
really, umm,k, wow, a life saving device on a evo, but then again i almost had a heart attack when i saw the pic of a crashed evo,
, anyway, i'm buying a usdm evo, just because i don't want the headache and all, and the people at evolution imports are not to friendly and diden't seem they wanted my bizness

Just ask any owner on Lancer register site who has AYC..... While nice, is impractical for racing as well as maintenance. Just changing the fluid can turn into nightmare. ACD you need qualified
tech to be able trouble shoot the ECU that controlls it. Tuners over here gave up on re-tuning the computer for better handling characteristics..now they sell their own programed ECU, made from scratch.
Personal experience... 1st gen. AYC was nice idea for road safety but impractical and pain *** for road racing, Gymkhana, and even straight drag.

1st gen = Evo 4
2nd gen = 5,6,TME
3rd gen = Evo 7
4th gen = Evo 8 (super ayc)
Since the 3rd generation, the acd and ayc systems are now tied into each other. They share the same pump, and the same ecu and thus many of the same sensors. I have driven the 2nd and 3rd generation (my 7) as well as owned a RS e6 for 4 yrs... and let me tell you the new AYC/ACD sytems cannot be compared to the older ones.
knows how people want to drive the evolutions... they are not as restrictive with respect to spirited driving as people think!
As for maintenance.... this includes two parts :
(a). Torgue transfer mechanism (clutch packs). Simple drain and fill as with a normal diff. Takes 0.7L of Mitsu Diaqueen ATF-spIII.
(b). Hydraulic piping.. you don't have to change this that often.. Every 30K or so. This requires the use of the Mitsu Dealer Mut-II/III (with the Evo 7/8 ROM PACK) to bleed out all the air from the hydraulic system while refilling. Also takes ATF-spIII. There is a manual system for bleeding (closely guarded secret in most shops) ... this is what we use to great success in Jamaica.
Mitsu now uses ATF-spiii instead of the hard to get ayc fluid etc..

way off topic here
the post in not about how good or bad the ACD/SAYC are, it's about if it's worth spending the extra money to import a JDM evo
and infact it's a pointless thread now, because i havealready choose not to
