Hey.... i met a girl this weekend at the Grand Prix of Long Beach named Julie who drives for Easy Street Motorsports and has an STI with approx 1,000whp drag car. Not only was she cute, but a very cool chick. Her car was BADA$$!!!!

I own a 06 evo and have never broken any gears. I have about 10friends locally here with evos of all years and trims and they have never blown trannies.

However, the sti is a great car its just personal preference.

Awesome, thanks for all the responses.

Warrtalon: I thought I had read about gear size and propensity for breakage in one of your posts, but maybe I just need to put the crackpipe down... Thanks for the setting me straight.

Well, I am pleased that my worst fear seems to be allayed.

Now if we could just get a couple more airbags in the Evo and some good crash test reports I would be completely sold... Guess you can't have everything though.

I have requests for quotes out to dealers, but I am guessing that South Coast Motors is going to win out on price.

I remember the 03 and 04 transmissions were breaking first & second gears pretty regularly, even at stock power.

Have they fixed that by now, or is it still a problem?

Thanks

:flamesuit on for not searching for 2 hours:

Where'd you get your information that the 03 and 04's were breaking gears 'pretty regularly'???? I heard that STi's were popping engines pretty regularly.

I heard that if you own an '03 that your Brembos will peel, your carbon fiber will blemish, your transmission will screw your wife while you're at work, and all of your children will grow up to be hippies.

Odd, IN the STi camp the 6 speed is considered bulletproof. The 02 and early 03 Wrx 5 speeds were known to lose gears under power.

And that is exactly the reason why I always drive my Evo to work.

I guess this is what happens when you come from Subaru world. If your intentions are true, then good luck in your car buying purchase, but I'm guessing you must be new to the internet and car forums. The title of this thread is pretty inflammatory.
