Red/gold fluid leak out of wheel hub???
Red/gold fluid leak out of wheel hub???
saw a bit of oiley gold/brown fluid leaking down off the right front wheel and onto the driveway. I took the wheel off and its comming out of the middle of the hub, but when i dabbed it off the hub with a towel and it was thin and red. Its only that wheel though, is it Brake fluid or ACD fluid, or is it grease? and why the leak? this is was found about noon after a late nite of a little hard cornering, but nothing too bad.
Edit: apparently if was just something to do with sludge coming off the brake pad, seems to have gone away.

no ideas?
Can't go to the stealership till monday and i'd like to know whats up going in. It'd be nice to fix it without taking it in.
Is it the bearings? i thought that until i wiped it off the hub and it was red. Doesn't look like the caliper is leaking and it can't be the ACD fluid all the way out at the hub right? it was gold/brown on the wheel and then thin and red on the hub
what in the world?

all the fluids look good, brake and ACD. The dealership just called and said they couldn't find anything. Said it might just be material from the brake pad that liquified when it got hot, but there was greasy fluid that dripped down onto the wheel and it was also on the lugs and in the lug holes, and on the center cap. couldn't tell where that fluid was comming from, then ofcourse there was the red fluid in the center of the brake rotor
Well how was the viscosity of the oil. Was it thick like bearing grease where it wouldn't drip at all but plop down or was it a thinner gear oil type fluid which will drip like syrup.
well thats the weird thing. The fluid that seemed like it was comming out of the lug holes was like gear oil, but when i took the wheel off i saw nothing like that, i wiped off what looked like acd fluid off the bolt in the middle of the brake rotor. The fluid on the wheel had nothing to do with the brakes it looks like.

power steering fluid is very red. The acd fluid would not get to the hubs on the front wheels (it may but highly unlikely) the power steering lines run right down the front passenger side of the car. Check them for leaks first. Brake fluid is clear.
I had a very small amount of melted red paint that dripped onto the garage floor, turned out it was from the Brembos. What in the world, right? The finish on them is awful, the clear peeled in a couple of spots, then the red dripped down and it faded where the paint was.
