My vote goes with Pivot for simplicity and relative accuracy. I like all their products though. Its a shame they are so hard to get in the U.S. now.

I use my brain and butt dyno. They're much quicker than responding to a shift light. Also, can you set a shift light at a different rpm for each gear? I shift at different rpms depending on the gear, so I've always been curious about that.

you should get one of those huge tacs with a built in light and put it way up on the dash. Or better yet, out on the hood.
Jegs could probably hook u up.

Gear Indicator & Shift Light

This is what I have bought after a long research on the Net. STARLANE ENGEAR..It is originally designed for motorbikes but fits cars aswell. It has a bright-red "gear indicator" and a bright-blue "shift light". It has only two connectors that goes to the ECU i.e. RPM and Speed the other are usual ground, +12 V... I will post another picture with the gear and shift light on... price - 110 $ inc. shipping...
